3 month old late afternoon nap - advice?

Have posted about my baby's sleep/naps before - DD is nearly 3 months old. Generally she naps well - morning around 45 mins - 1hour, lunchtime-ish usually 2 hours and afternoon about 45mins. I'm struggling to get her to nap later in the afternoon though, unless she's sleeping on me, something I want to avoid. She has all her other naps in her Moses basket and goes to sleep without much fuss. I do the same routine with this nap but she just ends up screaming.

I know that this is a difficult nap to get them to take, and that babies usually drop it between 3 months and 5 months, so not sure what to do. She needs to sleep at this time otherwise she's overtired at bedtime. Any suggestions? Do I just let her sleep on me so that she sleeps, or persist on putting her into her Moses basket when she ends up screaming and overtired?

Thanks!

I think that last nap is so important for stopping them getting over tired and therefore sleeping better at night that I do whatever is needed for DS to have it. For him this means either taking him for a walk or letting him nap on me.

How late is this last afternoon nap and what time does she go to bed?

Usually nap is around 4-4.30 with bedtime being 7-7.30. If she doesn't nap late afternoon she ends up being awake for around 4 hours which she does not cope with (I think her wake time is probably quite short for her age).

Then I think you are doing the right thing in letting her use you to get to sleep just for this nap. I am totally anti-sleeping-on-me, too, but I have found relaxing the rules for the most difficult nap of the day does not lead to all-round dodgy sleep associations. Don't worry Smile

Thanks PistolWhipped. She is pretty good at falling asleep herself in her Moses basket for naps/bedtime so I think you're right - one nap is not going to ruin everything...she said hopefully!

Just put her down for bed earlier tonight as she's had v little sleep this afternoon and was very fractious. Fingers crossed she stays asleep!
