Co-sleeping and bedding/duvets - how do you stay warm but safe?

4 week old DS will only sleep on me or close to me, so we are co-sleeping in our double bed (am hoping he will eventually graduate to bednest next to bed).

DH is currently sleeping under duvet as normal but I am pushing it down on my side of bed - last couple of nights DS has slept cuddled under my arm while I lay on my side, and I have tucked duvet between my knees to make sure it doesn't get pulled up by DH moving.

Problem is I have no bedclothes over my upper half and am freezing, even in warm nightclothes.

How do other people manage to co-sleep and stay snug? Defeats the object somewhat if I can't sleep because I'm shivering!

I used to tuck my duvet in at the foot end of the bed. That way I would not be able to accidentally cover him during the night. I wore a thick fleece cardigan to bed so that I could BF during the night.

DD was born in Feb so when she was little I wore a cardigan like dyslexicdespot. We're still cosleeping (coming up for 7 months) and now she is such a hot water bottle that I can have the duvet round my waist and sleep in a vest top without any problems.

My hubbie and I had a duvet each with little one in own sleeping bag.

Duvet up to my waist and tucked in, warm nightclothes and a cellular blanket on my top half tucked in under me.

Fleecy dressing gown and/or button shirt from primark.

Sleep lower down the bed if you can but leave baby up the top. Move your pillow down so that you can have duvet up to your neck but it doesn't cover the baby. Turning the pillow lengthways can help. Wouldn't work very well if you are tall unless you like feet hanging out the end of the bed!

I used to wear arm warmers like cyclists wear

Duvet folded down away from head, baby in bf pillow on top of fold, on DH side of bed (DH on sofa). Giant Muslin on top of bf pillow and tucked under it like a top sheet, so he cannot roll his face into or under bf pillow but is simply 'held in' by the u shape. Only one pillow (mine) on bed aside from that. I put him straight back in that after the night feed.

I wore a cardi and socks
DS2 wore a grobag
I used a cellular cotbed blanket to keep my exposed midriff warm.

We have a cosleeping bedside cot so DD3 has her own space like an extension of our bed and sleeps with a baby cellular blanket over her, but after the first wake up and breast feed of the night she usually ends up staying in our bed. We have swapped our quilt for blankets and I put my pillow in a diagonal position to keep it away from her face. Luckily we have a kingsize bed , as when she ends up in the middle between us she speads out like a little starfish and takes up a lot of room for a small person!
A couple of nights when it's been chilly I've worn a cardi.
