Philippalc- are you on commission from those book publishers. You've plugged them on the last three threads I've looked at on this sleep board- and that's just the last three I've looked at.

Another recommendation for Ann Caird. She worked with us now and after only two weeks my 10 month old went from waking 3 or 4 times a night (and often taking an hour or so to settle), to sleeping through most nights.

I tried several other sleep consultants but couldn't follow through because they all involved lots of crying. Ann is incredibly caring and really insightful. Wish I had gone to her earlier (although I do think 4 months might too soon).

Good luck

Thanks for that recommendTion- will look in to Ann too. So Andrea got back to me saying she can work with me however will save the last two phone calls for when DD is 6 months old. I've decided to leave it until 6 months now as the sleep plan will be more focused on helping her sleep through the night whereas Andrea said right now she may genuinly need to be fed etc

@blazeoflight- which package did you go for with Ann? Did you need to purchase any additional consultations?

BlazeofLight · 29/08/2014 21:29

I chose the six week package partly because I has tried other sleep consultants and failed (so thought we would be a tough case to crack) and partly because we were travelling a bit so I thought the disruption might slow down progress.

I really can't recommend her enough - but her approach is completely different to most sleep consultants so may not suit everyone.

@blazeoflight- in what sense is it different to other consultants? This is all new to me so really trying get an idea of what would suit us

Ann thinks about infant psychology, and believes that everything we do has an impact on our babies. She talked about how even tiny babies can perceive and understand an awful lot.

She approached the whole thing from the childs' perspective.

The other consultants I worked with (and I am embarrassed to say there were a few!) just gave me a set of rules to implement. Sleep training was something a parent "did to" their child.

And for me that was always impossible because I felt so anxious about the impact of the crying.

Unlike any of the other consultants Ann talked about the emotional well being of my baby, and I really felt I could trust her, which meant I trusted the process. And it felt like DS and I genuinely worked together, it wasn't something I just inflicted on him.

However if you are more pragmatic person who is slightly less neurotic anxious, a traditional approach might be fine.

I second exactly what blazeoflight said :)

You put it way better than I could have done, blazeoflight!!! :)
