Moro reflex

My ds (5.5wks) is constantly waking himself up just when he appears to be dozing off to sleep, with the pesky reflex where his arms shoot out suddenly. I don't really want to swaddle him as 1) he's not very keen on that anymore and 2) the last couple of nights have been so hot and sticky.

Is there any other remedy for it?

Not really, so far as I know. We used to have DS in just his nappy, swaddled in a light sheet or the iracle Blanket, when it was hot. He was never keen on the process of being swaddled, but it was the only way we could get him to sleep and we figured that was more important.

Thanks - it's not the process of being swaddled that he hates; it seems to be the restriction once he is swaddled. He fights it like crazy and winds himself up.

My MIL is staying at the moment and while out with him in the pram just discovered that he much prefers sleeping on his front... I know that this is not recommended and I won't do it at night... but do you think it's OK to have him on his front while I'm around to check him (like in the pram?). This was the first time he's settled in the pram rather than screaming the whole walk!

During the early weeks my ds suffered from quite a lot of trapped wind and I found settling him on his front during the day when i could check on him all the time allowed him to get some really good rest. Personally i don't think there is a problem with them sleeping on their front where you can monitor them but don't do anything you are not completely comfortable with!
