How would you dress a newborn for bed in this heat?

Just that really - the thermometer in our room reads 26 degrees with a fan on and windows open. He's been less thirsty than usual and I'm paranoid he'll overheat. He's in a vest and nappy at the moment, should I use his grosswaddle? Or shall I leave him in his vest? The fan might give him a cold but that has to be better than overheating right?

Thanks!

I'd leave in vest or nappy with that room temp. Hope you have a quiet night Smile

D's was born in august in this kind of heat and we put him in a nappy with a muslin cloth as a blanket when he was sleeping.

StrumpersPlunkett · 17/07/2014 22:16

we would have nappy and sheet, both boys were disturbed at night by draft from the fan so the sheet helped with that

I had this with dd2 last year, its horrible.

I had fan on but over her so it wasn't direct, vest on an muslin cloth over her.

couldn't sleep as I was worried bout her little legs getting cold

I made a grow bag out of a soft cotton sheet. Both dc's used it in the heat with just vest or even just a nappy underneath.

As he's a newborn, if he's not very wriggly, just a vest will be fine with a muslin/thin sheet as a cover.

As long as the fan's not directed on him, he should be fine.

I have a 13 week old and she's In a vest and nappy with just a sheet over her legs

Hiya, the temp read 30 in our lo's room last night, he just slept in a nappy with window open and fan on full blast, it wasn't till this morning his skin start to feel cool Sad I hate this heat, I just wish it was a little cooler - he is really unhappy!

He is 16 weeks by the way

Its crap isn't it? Both DS's rooms registered 25° last night. I just make sure there is air flowing and leave off covers etc. Both mine like shortie pjs which are loose so I don't feel too bad about leaving bag or duvet off.

Its a bit more difficult for DS1 as he's nearly 4 and prime age for waking up in the night and wandering so no wide open windows within his reach.

what are you doing in the daytime to stop it getting so hot? It might sound counter-intuitive but the minute it starts warming up in the mornings try closing all your windows and draw all your curtains. Once it cools down a bit in the evening open all your doors and windows to get a blast of air through-if you leave windows open all day you are just letting all the hot air from outside in. This has made a real difference to our house so maybe it will help you too.

Ds was born this time last year and I just had him in a nappy some nights. Occasionally with a sheet

Thanks everyone! Go came by today and said the same - nappy and a vest, or just a nappy. It's irritating because he sleeps so much better in a swaddle but at least he's safe. I can't believe we're in for another week of this weather...
