When do they learn how to LIE DOWN?

DD is 11mo and pretty mobile. No matter how tired she is, putting her down in the cot now involves standing over to reposition her as she endlessly rolls onto her front and pushes herself up to sitting / standing / crawling / cruising. Eventually she will wear herself out and she will roll onto her front, flip down and go to sleep. The problem is that she doesn't know how to lie down from a sitting position (especially problematic in the middle of the night when she pushes herself up in her sleep and wakes up sitting, with no idea how she got there or how to kid down again). When do babies learn how to lie down?!

Oh I know this pain! Mine is just over a year now and we had these fun and games for a good few months. I'd say he learnt to lay down a couple of weeks ago. My DH is very patient and stayed in his room with him every night repeating the mantra that we love him, but it's bed time and he needs to lie down. Doing that alongside actually laying him down seems to have made it click.

That said, we still have long bedtimes with him because bring able to do it, and wanting to are different things! But it's loads better than it was with wake ups in the night.

Ps it's now his party trick to lay down on command in the day like some sort of performing circus animal, so there is another benefit to that effort!

My 9 month old is doing this now too.
Just as naps and sleep we're getting a bit easier now he spends ages sitting/crawling/cruising, inevitably crying before his naps as I stand over him constantly putting him back lying down only for the whole thing to start again.
And same problem in middle of night where he's sitting/standing up before he even realises it and can't go back to sleep.

So I feel your pain.
I hope it doesn't go on for months?!

Yep - same with us. He'd finally got the hang of napping in the cot when it kicked it. We went back to naps in the pram, although his child minder gets him down in the cot.

My dd figured out lying down a bit earlier than 1, but I think it was more so she was a complete daredevil and would try and scale the sides of her cot to get out, then fall down with such force she would end up lying down.... There's benefits to not being able to lie down!

This too shall pass!
