My 6 week old DS wakes every hour for milk (ff). So just as I'm getting back to sleep he is waking again for his feed! I am so tired my eyes are stinging and it is starting to affect my mood!

Any one offer any advice or in same situation. I know at 6 weeks he wouldn't be sleeping long stretches but not every hour )-: so fed up right now don't know what I'm doin wrong.

wow, every hour must be killing you!
my two were BF, feeding every two hours and that was bad enough

have you tried a dummy? he might have a strong sucking reflex and need the teat for that

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 25/06/2014 06:35

How much is he drinking at every feed? And what feed times does he have during the day?

Ilovefood15 · 25/06/2014 06:39

Hi, thanks for replying

Yes we have tried a dummy and he will suck on it thinking it is his bottle and as soon as be realises it is not, will spit his dummy out. Health visitor suggested leaving him to cry for his bottle for an hour and then see if he will take more every two hours but I have tried but feel awful leaving him to cry so end up giving in lol

He was waking every two hours for the first couple of weeks but last two weeks have been every hour.

please ignore the HV! that is just cruel

Maybe its reflux? they like more milk to counteract the acid.

Ilovefood15 · 25/06/2014 06:41

During the day he can go between 2/3 hours. At night he is only having 2 oz every hour and then he tends to fall asleep and will not take any more

Are you winding him during the feed? He might need a big burp to make space for more milk?

beccajoh · 25/06/2014 06:44

How long has he been doing this? They do have a fairly awful growth spurt around six weeks.

Fairylea · 25/06/2014 06:45

He may have silent reflux. The milk going down helps to reduce the feeling of acid so they often like to suck milk continuously. You can get medications from the gp to help with the reflux. It might be worth giving those a go and seeing if things improve. Also raise one end of the cot or moses basket with some books underneath the legs. The incline helps to stop the acid rising up.

TanteRose · 25/06/2014 06:45

oh of course! 6 week growth spurt! that may be it, and he'll settle back down in a few days

beccajoh · 25/06/2014 06:46

Sorry just seen it's two weeks. That's really hard going. I wonder if he's a bit thirsty now the weather is warmer? Try giving him a bit of cooled boiled water perhaps.

Don't let him cry for an hour that's really unkind for such a tiny baby.

beccajoh · 25/06/2014 06:49

Sorry me again - what fairylea said about silent reflux, that might be worth investigating. My DS was diagnosed at about six weeks with SR although there are some fairly specific symptoms. Mainly screaming to be fair, but screaming when you try and feed him, back arching, crying when you pick him up and so on.

Ilovefood15 · 25/06/2014 07:42

Thanks for all your replies. It does sound like it might be reflux, he does scream a lot and nothing will console him and he does arch his back. I will make an appointment today with gp

Thanks again for replying x

Hope you can get some help. Just have in mind that gps often prescribe gaviscon first but for a lot of babies thus causes constipation. If this is the case go back to the gp and ask for something else. There are other medications to try.

I also found that the "comfort" milks seemed to make him worse. I don't know why but they just seemed to make him really uncomfortable. Sma gold seemed to be the best one for him. I've heard others say the same thing. Just be prepared for some green poo when / if you switch over- completely normal with Sma gold.
