My three year old will not sleep alone in his bed. We were in a one bed flat when he was born and co slept (mainly due to lack of space for his cot) but a year ago we moved into our house and he has his own room which he loves and getting him to sleep in his own bed in his own room was easy as it could be apart from he will not fall asleep on his own and once asleep if we sneak out to go to our own bed it is lucky if it's an hour before he is awake and comes in crying for us to go back to bed with him because of this we still have broken sleep and it's almost 2230 before he is in bed sometimes later

Please tell me someone else has this problem or has the solution as I feel like I'm a terrible dad not having his nighttime sorted out it's really getting us down any ideas????

I have the same problem.

DD2 was fine until we moved her fron the cot to the bed,. We are going to swap rooms round so the girls share, hopefully then she won't get up and come into us almost every night.

I wish there was an easy solution to getting them to fall asleep alone he just fights it a lot and bedtimes get later and later

we had this problem when my daughter started to suffer from nightmares at the age of 2.5yrs. She had been a poor sleeper to begin with, then we got it sorted - then at this age she regressed. We used many different techniques - bribery- e.g. sleep fairy will leave a gift under your pillow if you stay in your own bed all night. we moved DD's bed so she could see out of the door into our bedroom which helped her feel more connected. Also we used sleepeasy spray by indigo essences - which is for fearful sleepers.
Also just asking and listening to why she didn't want to be left alone helped. Here's my blog post on the sleep easy spray and how we dealt with her being fearful at night...if you're interested. Good luck!

I think the problem is where we co slept with him he is used to us being there (mainly my wife) if we stay in bed all night he wont wake up but if we slip out after he has fallen asleep an hour later he is up and needing us to get back in with him until asleep again and its just a continuous circle

i don't think he is fearful of sleep he is more than happy at bedtime but will not fall asleep alone if we try to leave him he screams and gets so worked up until he is at the point of hyperventilating

where am i going wrong?? Sad
