Bedside/Cosleeper Cot

I'm looking for some advice on bedside/cosleeper cots.

I would like to get a bedside cot for my baby which is due in November. I don't want a crib, but want a full size cot - basically to avoid spending money on something my baby will grow out of within 6 months - I have very little storage space for keeping things once outgrown. I also anticipate keeping baby bedside as long as I breastfeed. I would also like it to be able to function as a regular cot, with all sides up if necessary (am I asking too much?).

I've scoured the internet but have only found one that fits the bill - the Troll bedside cot. There are loads of bedside cribs and bednest style things but not much in cot size. I found a few other ones which seem to heve been discontinued (mothercare have made one which is always out of stock and there is a discontinued brio one).

I feel I must be missing some - can anyone enlighten me to any other bedside cots out there? I have read threads about adapting regular cots and this is an option, but the cot is one of the few things I am happy to spend a bit on, as I see it as an investment for further babies down the line (I hope).

Thanks for any information!

Personally we just have a regular cot bed from John Lewis. Same one brought for next child as first still using as bed now at 4. I breastfed both times and just have cot next to bed, and just say up and reached in to get for feed, then back in. At newborn to sitting up the mattress is on highest setting in cot anyway so not much effort to reach in.

About £120. Used from newborn next to bed. Now ds1 is 4 1/2 and uses as toddler bed so with sides off and I guess he will fit at least another year or so. So until 5/6 years on average

Oh and we then spent more on naturalmat organic mattresses so super comfy still for child as well as small baby

IKEA do one but I'm not sure of the name. £30-£40 I think.

I bought the troll for my LO as she never settled in her moses basket from day 1. I too wanted a cot bed that lasted more than 6m and this one seemed to fit the bill. It has worked pretty well for us, though I would recommend checking that the height of your bed and the height of cot settings match up if you do go ahead and buy it(I just assumed it would have a setting at the right height!). The other thing is that you have to improvise with covering the gap between cot and bed so that baby's hands etc don't get stuck. We just use a folded up sheet or large muslin.

Thanks for your tips everyone.

Pickledpumpkin - it's good to hear you've found the Troll worked well for you, especially seeing as I can't find any others like it! I was worried about the height adjustment actually: I have found it stated online that the highest setting is 40cm above ground (without mattress) but can't find any information stating what the various options of height settings are. Can you remember if the height settings are fairly well staggered or if there are big gaps between them? (I hope that makes sense) I guess if there isn't a setting of exactly the corrct height we cound make an additional one at the correct level. That would be slightly frustrating though after spending £250 on it. Can I also ask if you've found the mechanism for moving the side of the cot to function okay?

Thanks for your help!

My friend had one from IKEA with a removable side.. possibly this one:

I guess they clamped it to the bed somehow?

As above, you would need to make sure it was the right height for your bed/matress...bit less than £250 though!!

Hi StripeyFox, my highest setting is 35 cm and there are 3 cm between each hole with the lowest one being about 17 cm. I'm pretty sure I'm measuring it right and it's definitely not 40cm high on mine...maybe that's why it was a bit too low for my bed! Re: the mechanism, I've never moved it back since the first time I opened the side up, but it seemed to work pretty well.

Hi,

Chicco also do a cot that has an adjustable panel that can be slipped under your mattress- so co-sleeping but baby has it's own space. If I didn't already have a cot gifted to me I'd probably get one:
