Hi,just popping in ,desperate for advice.

Dd is 17 weeks old,EBF and waking at least twice a night sometimes more.this is baby no.5 and have never had a good sleeper yet.so I am wondering if I am doing something wrong?

I feed her in the evening after bath and she generally falls asleep at the breast around 8-9pm but could be wake as soon as 10,12 or 2 am or maybe all three times then another once or twice before 8am.when she wakes I just put her to the breast.

Should I be trying to just hold her or walk with her instead of putting her to the breast? Please advise?

Thank you x

Im no expert as my lo is a terrible sleeper. However I used to do what you do, from birth until 5 months and at night she woke every hour at night. I decided to get her to nap in her pram instead, so to break the boob/nap association. It worked and now she sleeps much better - still wakes every 4 hours at night. Only problem is now I walk 12 miles a day and I'm exhausted. I can't get her to transfer to sleeping in a cot unless she is bf to sleep again. So a very small victory! Good luck. Can't believe you have 5 most days I don't think I'm coping with one

hello littlepinkfizz - yes sounds like your LO has got a bit dependent on your boob to get back to sleep. I had very similar with my DS who fed every 2 hours till he was 9 months old ... But your DD is only v little - I have a 14 week old so know what it's like. Mine sleeps OK at the moment but what I have tried to do with her is not have her associate sleep with feeding too much, as I know that's what went wrong with DS. So I make sure I put her down awake at the start of the night so she can get herself off to sleep without the boob. I still have to sit there and have a hand on her, rock her a bit, but at least she's not actually falling asleep feeding. So when she wakes in the night, there's more of a chance she can get herself off to sleep on her own, or at least without having to suck. So I'd really try to get your DD to sleep on her own at 8pm, put her down awake, even if it takes a few days for her to get the hang of that. With DS we ended up having to use a sleep consultant, we were in such a mess, and that was the very first thing they got us to do and which they stressed was the most important - how they fall asleep at the start of the night really dicates what they are going to do the rest of the night.

Hope that helps!

Thank you ladies! She actually had 2 good nights in a row sleeping 6 hours stretches....then back to every 3/4 hours last night! Hope it's a case of 2 steps forward...1 back! X
