so exhausted. .6 month baby waking 20+ times a night

Hi,

my 6 month baby has never been a great sleeper. We bath her, feed her upstairs in dim light then put her to bed. She is still in our room. We used to only be able to get her to sleep by rocking her but she had started to fall asleep herself with a lullaby on or by holding her hand through the cot.

recently (past three weeks) she has struggled to fall asleep by herself. She has a dummy but only when sleeping. I have resorted to rocking her the last two weeks as she cries so much when I put her down and it can take up to two hours to fall asleep, leaving her over tired.

She is waking up throughout the night and wakes crying. If I leave her she really cries, becomes wide awake and can take up over an hour to get to sleep. I'm forever getting up to pop her dummy in and I'm exhausted.

She only wakes for a feed once around 4ish and wakes at varied times to get up, however keeps waking up crying.

She sleeping in a grow bag as she was pulling her cover over her head in the night. She has previously slept well in this bag on some occasions.

I'm so stressed as she starts to wake anytime from her going to bed. This means when I'm tidying up, having a shower or trying to spend time with my husband, we are both just up n down the stairs. I also still have a baby bump and really want to exercise consistently but I'm tired and up n down the stairs.

Really need some help as can't continue like this.

xx

When you say she's only waking for a feed once, do you mean you offer a feed each time she wakes but she only takes it at 4 or your only offering it at 4? It may be that she's waking up hungry?
Are you weaning? It might be something disagreeing with her?
If she's waking because the dummy has fallen out it might be time to ditch it? We got rid of dds at 11mo because she would wake up screaming, we'd put it back in, and she'd go straight back to sleep... ain't nobody got time for 'dat!
Is she in a cot or Moses basket? Maybe she needs more space if it's the latter?
Also, have you considered she might be hot? It's been warmer for the past few weeks, we've just reduced dd from going to bed in babygrow+ bodysuit + sleeping bag + blanket which she can pull over herself to babygrow + optional blanket?

It's an awful awful stage, but just remember she won't be 20 and waking up in the night crying for you...

Hopefully I've managed to give you some different options to think about, I know my brain didn't think of some of the easier fixes when I was that tired!!!!!

Oh and just re-read the op, 6mo is teeth time.... Calpol/ ibuprofen/ teething granules?

We had a similar dummy issue around the same time. I bought an Olly & Belle muslin and tied it to the dummy so it was easier to find. After a month, I took the dummy away and left just the muslin. DD seemed to be able to find it 90% of the time herself. She still (now 21 months) sleeps with the muslin. She occasionally (twice a month?) can't find it and cries out for us to come and find it for her.

A lot of friends have fund their babies have slept better after being moved into a cot in their own room. Worth a try??
It sounds like she's over tired-what's her daytime sleeping like?

No advice! I am in the same situation. It's awful isnt it. My house looks like a bombs landed. I walk her every nap so lost all my baby weight that way, it's nearly killed me nad th house looks terrible but at least I'm thin now lol. So you could try that. Just keep saying to yourself 'it wont always be like this!'
