14 week old waking through the night with trapped wind

I am a first time mum with a BF 14 week old DD. She had begun to sleep more or through the night at 12 weeks (last feed about 10pm, waking for feed at 3 or 4). I don't wind her after those feeds as she falls asleep feeding. This week, she has hardly slept for more than 2 hours at a time, sometimes waking every hour. I try feeding her incase this is a growth spurt but she's not very interested. She often pulls her knees to her chest and wriggles about in crib. In the morning she had a lot of wind but we are unsuccessful in getting it out during the night. Would Infacol or the like help? Should I be getting up properly to feed during the night and winding her before putting her down? I am so sleep deprived I'm going crazy!

You could try winding her at night, but generally breastfed babies don't swallow air as they feed (as a breast doesn't have air in it) so are much less likely to need winding than bottle fed babies. If you can't get the wind out at night I would guess it isn't wind that is the problem tbh - wriggling about and pulling legs up is quite normal regardless.

I hear what you're saying about not needing to wind BF babies.DD has a constantly blocked nose however (seeing paediatrician at hospital in 2 weeks) and so breathes through mouth a lot. When feeding, she keeps latching on and off to breathe through mouth and can gulp in air. Sometimes milk goes down the wrong way and she coughs and splutters etc.

But I think it's "bottom wind" that's bothering her anyway!

Hi OP my Ds was like this - for a few nights he would be fine but when he had trapped wind it was an absolute nightmare - he would be up every hour screaming and pulling his legs to his chest. I'm afraid infacol didn't work for us - he just vomited it back up but could be worth a try.

In the end it just sorted itself out with time and by the time he was 4 months he didn't get nighttime wind any more. Still didn't sleep though Sad

My 12 week old seems to accumulate "bottom wind" through the night too as wakes up grunting and squirming from about 3am onwards.

I give gripe water, do tummy massage and leg bicycles and just wait for the phase to pass...

Also desperately sleep deprived Confused

My 7 week old has exactly the same problem. It's so frustrating as often he sleeps through it but sort of crying out and grunting and writhing around. It can go on for a good hour before he finally actually wakes up but in the meantime I get absolutely no sleep! Sad I can't wait for this phase to pass! We've tried infacol and all sorts but nothing seems to help. Let me know if you find a solution! You're not alone!
