Co-sleeping and blankets

Those of you that either have baby in bed with you or have a "side car" type cot, what do you use to cover them?

I have adapted a normal cot to attach it to the side of my bed. If I'm using blankets, then DS should be "feet to foot" of the cot, which means he's way too far down the cot and not sleeping next to me, which is main reason for having the cot adapted, for easier settling and feeding. He's 3 weeks old and seems too young for a sleep sack, besides which, I use one of those zip up swaddle pod things which I couldn't use if using a sleep sack.

What do other people do?

At that age I swaddled DD in the cot next to me. I know there is stuff out there against swaddling but it's what the hospital showed me and I realised it stopped her reflexes waking her up. I used a massive muslin as it was summer and warm. If it seemed a bit chilly I would then add a cellular blanket but didn't worry about bottom of cot as she wasn't moving yet. She stayed like that until I put her into sleeping bags at I think about 8-12 weeks

Just for cot obvs, can you put him so he's top to tail with you? So put him back to front in the cot, his feet at your head? I did this for a while, I could shuffle down do my head was near ds head or so I could just reach put and stroke his chest/tum when he stirred. We co slept from 4 months with him in a sleeping bag.

What does he wear under his swaddle thingy? Maybe he is warm enough in vest/suit swaddlepod although they look cosier in blanket/sleeping bag.

Hi my DD2 (4.5mths) is in a bedside crib with a sleepyhead in it. She seems warm enough most of the time in a sleep suit and zip swaddle which says it is 0.4 tog but think it is warmer than equivalent sleeping bag as it is tight and cosy and her hands and arms are in which makes a big difference to their temperature.

You could always add a vest under the sleep suit if she was still cold (remember to check her chest and back rather than head and hands).

I have this arrangement and instead of feet to foot his feet are at the headboard (so opposite way to me) or perpendicular to me (so feet point to me). The latter makes picking him up for feeds a bit easier but your cot may not be wide enough to take full length.

He sleeps in a sleeping bag as he tends to kick off blankets.
