First the good news: ds slept an 8 hour strech last night (albeit with a little cry which subsided as soon as I put the dummy in at about 11)

But he woke up at 5 and simply didn't go back to sleep even though he was tired (and I didn't manage to get to bed until 11.30 so not enough sleep for me). I fed him, and he slept for 5 mins, then we had a couple of hours of rocking the cot, picking him up, feeding him a bit more - during most of which time he was half asleep. Then he woke up properly at 8.

Just posting this because I find it so infuriating really, but does anyone have a miracle cure? My plan for tonight is to burp him straight after feeding, which isn't usually necessary, but may buy me an extra half hour. I'd try putting him to bed later, but he went half an hour early last night and I think that might be why he slept so well at first. Sigh.

How old is he? I remember when dd started doing a long stretch at night it was a bit of a mixed blessing because although she was no longer waking in the middle of the night for a feed (after which she'd go back to sleep until a reasonable hour) she was wanting to get up earlier too. It was around then that I started to give her an 11pm feed and that seemed to push her through to a later start. Eventually though I got used to her being an early birdy. yawn ...
