Ds has got into the habit of falling asleep in our bed. He was poorly so was sleeping in our bed, and for naps as I am pg I found it easier to let him nap in my bed and I lay next to him. He's now 11m and it really needs to stop. I go back to work in June so thought it might be worth spending the next week trying to fix it. If I put him in cot awake he instantly stands up at side of bars and cries if I leave the room. If I put him in asleep he's started waking up as soon as he goes on cot.
I spent 80 mins at morning nap trying to get him to nap in his cot and he just cried and cried. I stayed with him and soothed him, he would settle down then start crying again. Should I just persevere with same method?

Must admit I preserved with ds on this and it never worked with just leaving him to cry ( he never stopped - 4 hours one night of gently trying to calm him - it was midnight before I gave in and just lay him down next to me -I couldn't bare it) - but maybe a gradual retreat method is worth a try starting with hand through cot bars - this gave us some improvement.
However the next cold knocked that out and at 20 months we bought a single bed - let him fall asleep on that (safety rails etc of course) and he started sleeping through. I lie down with him and just sneak off when asleep. A real cop out but ...

I'm glad it's not just us!
I'd really like to get sorted before dc2 arrives but he'll only be 17m so maybe still too young.
