Anyone tried wake to sleep with toddler (23 months)?

My dd has always been a dreadful sleeper. Finally slept through at 22 months, managed two weeks of it then suddenly started waking for the day anytime between 2 and 5am.
I am beyond worn out. I also still breastfeed (wake up and bedtime only) and have cut the morning feed to see if this improves matters; it hasn't.
Has anyone tried wake to sleep with a toddler this age? My understanding is that I'd wake her at 4am (she wakes at 5am most mornings). Then in theory, she'd go back to sleep. Anyone got any better ideas? Thanks.

Or is worth trying an earlier bedtime or a later supper?

Have you ruled out the drop in night temp, noises from loud birds, etc waking her up?

Yes, thanks for replying, have tried thicker pyjamas with feet as won't have a blanket, have blackout blinds, tried different room to avoid bird noise...... Tonight am trying later bedtime and later supper plus snacks I'm case it's hunger, but am not hopeful. Will see.

How long have you tried any one thing for?

I too am sick to death of 5am wake ups. My ds is 22 months and it's like he has got an internal alarm clock. I shall be watching this thread!

I tried everything, including wake to sleep with dd2 when she was this age, and I'm afraid none of it worked. Eventually she just grew out of it - sorry.

In answer to how long have I tried the alterations, dropping the morning feed I've done for 8 days now, blackout blinds for a month, basically, I've kept going with these things in spite of them not appearing to affect her wake up.
Last night she was so exhausted that although I got her to sleep four times, she would wake immediately I put her down in her cot. In absolute desperation I ended up driving her around at 11pm when she finally went to sleep.....
I thought this might help but no, up at 5 this morning still!
I'm a teacher and we have ofsted today - this is not helping......!
Anyone got any ideas?!?

Does she have a day nap?

Hi, What's your DD eating for dinner - my DD would wake in the night with a blood sugar drop so we concentrated on special tryptophan foods with complex carbohydrates to help her feel more sleepy and have better quality sleep.

We also used acupressure to help DD fall into a deeper sleep - it also works well in the middle of the night if they are difficult to settle.

I also found that a later bedtime meant she was over tired and then was more restless during sleep - so we actually put bedtime earlier - which strangely meant she slept longer?? We also cut lunch time nap to 1 hour.
I've blogged about my DD's sleep and what worked for us. If you're interested here's the post on sleepy foods and acupressure points.

Good luck with it all!

She was napping for an hour when the early waking began, so I cut it to half an hour, made no difference. Tried no nap at all and was hideous from 3pm till bedtime and still woke around 5....
I know she's someone who needs less sleep than average, has since birth, but she now has less than an adult. Her behaviour and mood are just awful as a result. She's also stopped eating, as she gets too overwrought. Again, always been someone who doesn't seem to have much appetite.
Will look at the blog and try the complex carbs, if she'll have them. Thanks v much for the ideas.
