What should baby wear to sleep in hot weather? Help!

Quick question from a first time mum: what should my 3 week old baby wear to bed in this evening please?
My bedroom is 22degrees and I have the windows open.

She will be sleeping I. Her Moses basket. Also will she need a blanket?

Still trying tiger to grips with being a mum! Smile

DS (6 weeks) is wearing a vest, thin sleepsuit, in his Moses basket with a light blanket over him.

Meant to say that it tends to cools down quite a lot at this time of year still at night so perhaps if you feel she needs less then keep a blanket handy in case it cools down and you want something extra later in the night.

I would put in a regular sleepsuit with feet and baby vest plus thin sleeping bag/ blanket at that age and temp.

Once it gets over 25 degrees I would take vest off but still use long footed sleepsuits. Babies arms and legs get very cold at night at young age

If in doubt go for fewer layers rather than more. Maybe just a vest, or a nappy and a light blanket (and put on an extra layer if it seems chilly when you go to bed).

DS got hot very easily and so in warm weather I just had him in a short sleeved sleepsuit, no vest, no blanket. You can always add a thin blanket. Don't worry too much!

Slongette · 18/05/2014 22:00

Remove layers - you can always add an extra blanket if need be in the night. Hands and feet can feel cold, but feel baby's back to get a feeling for how warm/cold she is.

My DS is just in a nappy, sleep suit and 0.5 sleeping bag... I think we tend to over dress them!

Saying that his room is showing 25 degrees!!!

I'd go for just a usual babygrow and maybe a light blanket over. At 3w I guess they'll be waking you every few hours anyway so you'll have plenty of chance to check on them. But I always erred towards them getting a bit chilly at 4am than overheating at 10pm, if that makes sense.

RaisinGirls · 18/05/2014 22:21

Thanks, everyone. Would rather she was a little chilly than over heating. So hard to judge what is best...

My ds was born in a heat wave in July!
He wore often just a vest or a nappy to bed and still woke up hot!

I agree, better to be cooler. Maybe a thin sleep suit and a breathable thin blanket or even a muslin draped over loosely

RaisinGirls · 18/05/2014 22:26

So maybe drop the vest then?

I would drop the vest. As I said, my DS always preferred less in hot weather and one layer was fine. Easy to put a muslin or blanket on later if you change your mind, but annoying to have to remove a vest.

RoganJosh · 18/05/2014 22:29

I always used this guide, plus one extra layer on legs (sleepsuit where it says vest) but it gives a good comparison. gro.co.uk/pages/what-to-wear

RoganJosh · 18/05/2014 22:31

I'd go for babygro and add a blanket later if it cools down.

Cellular blankets Psammead

TheDudess · 18/05/2014 22:41

Cellular blankets!

I've put mine in a vest and sleep suit but no blanket. Can always put the cellular over later. It's so hot!
