Too young to drop final nap?

Ds1 is 2.5 and in nursery 4 days a week, he's a full on energtci little boy. We've just been sorting an early waking issues, which we hope is now going the right way. But I don't know whether we reintroduce the nap or not, he is so irritable by bedtime it's heartbreaking how tired he is.

Roughly 630 wake up (good day)
730 bedtime at moment

Used to be

5am wake up
1 hour nap
7pm bedtime

So, earlier bedtime is what I am thinking and no nap.

Anyone had the same?

My DD dropped her naps all together just after her 2nd birthday. She just didn't need them anymore! If she does full asleep in the day now it make her bedtime so late, 9.30/10pm! Some children just don't need the sleep.
If he is really tired in the evening just put him to bed earlier maybe 6.30/7. That's what I do with DD. Maybe get a black out blind and see if it helps him sleep longer in these light morning. Good luck

DS hasn't napped since about 2. Awake at 6:00/6:30 and asleep by 6:30/7:00.

Thanks. Have the full repertoire of curtains blinds. He definitely off to bed early tonight, a week of no naps and late bedtime has taken its toll!

Loads of kids don't nap by 2.5... doesn't mean it will be the solution, but it's not too young, kids are vastly different with sleep. One of mine stopped napping of her own accord at 18 months but still got up at 5am and went to bed at 7.30pm - weirdly she was a far more even tempered toddler than the one who still napped til almost 3 and slept longer at night too...

My ds stopped his daily nap in the cot just after his second birthday. I was aghast!!

But, he would nap maybe two or three times a week instead. I had to take him out in the car or pushchair to get him off to sleep, then I would come home and transfer him on to the sofa to carry on sleeping. That probably went on for another 6 months or so and was blissful on the days he did nap!

Yep, another one saying just after second birthday for dropping naps.

Totally agree with no nap and a slightly earlier bedtime is worth a try.

Also, in the early days of non nap, he might sleep one day in 2 or 3. So its also worth considering that he might need a nap some days and not others.

Dd stopped napping at 12 months and was sunny and even tempered all day.

Ds is 2.7 and cannot cope without 2hrs after lunch.

I agree that some need half or even a quarter a nap per day! My dd1 dropped all daytime naps by the time she was 18 months. Fortunately, she was a good night time sleeper (7pm-7am) so it was fine. Dd2 held into hers until she was three and until she was four would have half or a third of a nap a day (one every two or three days!). Even now she is four and a half, she will still sleep in the car if we go on a long journey or will snuggle up with me during the day.

They are all different. Try a few things and see what works.

Thanks ladies. After crashing last nught, he was up raring to go at 430 this morning.

I think we are going to go for a 730.bedtime, no nap, unless he is pooped and then put him down for half hour or so.

Exhausted, husband v grumpy. Booooo.
