Has anyone else experienced this. DS is 8wks and for the past few weeks has been struggling with a stuffy nose at about 4am. Have been to GP today who has given nasal drops and assures me that in a couple months it will have all settled down - is this true?? Can we hope to get at least a 4hr stretch of sleep??? When he wakes with this he is not hungry (as fed only an hour before) and once held vertical he goes back to sleep but DH & I are finding these early starts quite tiring. I'd be grateful for any advice and also words of reassurance Thanks in advance.

olbas oil on a piece of cloth placed near the baby but not so near he can get hold of it?

Ds did this a lot until he was a few months old. When he woke because of this he was quite distressed. I would use the saline drops straight away. Using them was difficult as it made him cry more but as soon as it was done he would settle quickly and would be able to feed or would go to sleep without feeding depending on when he had last fed. Trying to feed him when he was like that was no good even if he was hungry as the nose congestion would stop him feeding and he just got more upset.

This did settle down but unfortunately ds disn't sleep for more than 3-4 hours maximum for a while longer though I know many babies sem to settle in their sleep patterns around 3-4 months or so..

Thanks, will try the Olbas Oil tonight and start the drops. Just heartbreaking to hear him struggling like that, also knowing that he wants to sleep but can't. Wish us luck.
