Utterly exhausted- help and advice desperately needed

DS is 13 weeks old. He has always been a very straightforward baby, he would wake at night hungry, feed and then settle himself back to sleep. For the past 2 weeks he's been sleeping through from 7-7 with a 10pm dream feed.

Since Wednesday night something has changed and I have no idea what. He wakes at 2:33am exactly and wriggles and shuffles and makes little cries. He occasionally has a dummy and by using that I can sometimes settle him back to sleep for another half an hour but generally he is wide awake.

His cues are usually very easy to read and he isn't waking hungry, although invariably by 4am he has made himself hungry. After feeding he will go back to sleep but snuffles about noisily for half an hour or so first.

I have no idea what is waking him- he isn't hot or cold, he has always been swaddled in a Woombie and I've tried stopping swaddling but it makes no difference. He has recently had a big growth spurt and jumped from the 50th centile to the 91st, but I would have expected any sleep disruption to happen during the growth spurt rather than after.

Any ideas or suggestions? I am back at work two days a week and don't know how I'm going to cope next week after being up half the night.

It's probably not good practice bot tbh I'd just feed him at 2.30 when he stirs then go back to sleep- bit of a nightmare after sleeping through but its got to be better than waiting listening to him for 2 hours then feeding him anyway???

I had considered that, it's earlier than he used to feed but you're right, if I get more sleep then it has to be a good thing, even if it's only on the nights I'm working the next day.

DH has just suggested he could be teething- his cheeks are flushed, he's dribbling like crazy and has started gnawing on our fingers. His gums don't feel that hot but they do feel sharp. Could it be teething? It seems too soon.

Could be starting to teeth, my dd started that at 12 weeks and it was also the same time when her sleep went pear shaped.
She is 29 weeks now still with no teeth and still sleeping terribly. Not what you wanted to hear sorry!

Have you tried giving a slug of calpol or Nurofen in case it's sore gums?

missmargot · 13/04/2014 12:23

Will try Calpol tonight, I have some Nelson's teething powder too. He's fine in the day, happy and chirpy, it's just this night time.

Could easily be teething- Babies gums can start to bother them long before a tooth emerges. Anbesol is really good if his gums are sore but I'm not sure what age they can have it from.

Will check the Anbesol label, thanks for the suggestion
