Baby waking before deep sleep

Hi

DD2 is quite difficult to settle and am interested to hear from other MNers who've had similar babies. She's 12 weeks old and is difficult to settle. I BF her til she's just dropping off then transfer to the Moses basket. I then for 70% of the time have to stay close for 20 mins as she wakes up a couple of times crying before she goes into deep sleep - usually waking and crying for a couple of minutes just before deep sleep. I can normally get her through this by shhing her but sometimes have to lift her and occasionally BF her again. She's swaddled and I settle her on her side.

I know she's v young still but wondering when she might find it easier to fall asleep? And also if there's anything else I can do to help her?

Thanks!

Just wanted to add that she co-sleeps for most of the night and does at least one nap in the sling but for various reasons (toddler/relationship with DP/own sanity) I need her to be in her own bed some of the time.

I used to hold for 20 minutes after he'd fed to sleep. Any other way and he'd startle awake. Then he started tummy sleeping.

Thanks Thereslotsof. I'm trying to avoid that so that she starts to get used to falling asleep alone - plus, at least if I'm going back and forth to shush her I can do other things at the same time. When did you start putting your LO on their front. DD1 started sleeping on her front once she could roll easily - at about 4 or 5 months I think.

Anyone else got any thoughts?

hi fizzwizz, the same thing happens with our 10wo. we have to keep going back to the cot and picking him up and patting him back to sleep. it's really fustrating sometimes, and soley patting him on his back no longer works. I'm currently sitting with him in my arms during such an episode Sad

fuzzywigs sorry, stupid phone

Yep, I think some babies just need that bit of extra reassurance. I'm hoping DD2 will grow out of it now she's coming out of her newborn phase.
