Baby wide awake in middle of night

Does anyone have any ideas about this? Ds3 us nearly 7 Weeks & most nights is awake during the night for 2 hours in one block, after going to sleep no problem. He does not seem to be hungry, windy, cold or lonely in this time, just wide awake. He likes the light on & will start to cry immediately we turn it off, also if he can't see me (doesn't necessarily need holding though)

I don't expect sleeping through yet & the 4 hour blocks he starts off with are amazing, I could just do without this wakeful period!

Anybody? Please? Was 1.5 hours last night. Am starting to feel like he's the only baby to do this Shock

I think at this age he doesn't know night from day. I'd avoid putting the light on, talking etc and if he cries feed/rock whatever is needed to comfort him. He'll get his day/night cycle sorted soon!

That's a good suggestion, thanks. We'd have to put light on to change nappy but then could try to do rest in dark. Not sure how it will go as having light on settles him just not to sleep. Worth a try though

I had this when DS2 was around the same age and posted on here about it. I used to sit in the living room with him until he fell asleep in his Moses basket which would be up to 3 hours. What worked for me was just putting him down awake, carrying him upstairs and letting him fall asleep on his own. Then I decided not to take him downstairs but just to feed him in bed and put him straight down again.

Do you turn the main light on to change nappy?? If so then stop .. A small lamp only or in my case I have the landing light on and the door only slightly open letting a little light in .

can you dim the light/ buy a dimmer plug/move light further away so he gets gradually used to darker at night?

We don't move from the bedroom all night & downstairs he sleeps in his pram, so we're not carrying the Moses basket around. There are 2 big flights of stairs so could be tricky!

We turn on the light in our ensuite & change him on the floor in the bedroom - but obviously need something or it could get messy Grin

We do actually have a plug-in nightlight, which isn't very bright, that we got for DS1 when we were away from home (he's 5 but still sleeps with a lamp on, but it's not a problem as he sleeps 12 hours). So I might give that a try Smile

Thanks for some ideas Smile

Well, last night we were all set to do everything in the dark when day woke...and he didn't wake! We got 7 hours Shock Of course, this will probably never be repeated, gut for now I'll take what I can get Grin

Thanks again
