Should I use a cot bumper for my 16 mo ds?

My ds is a good sleeper generally but recently he's started waking up regularly between 7-11pm sometimes four or five times and sometimes in the night too. He has a cot bed which is quite big I think, but he moves around a lot and gets into funny sideway positions with his head wedged against the bars or he sleeps with his head right against the solid wood ends.

I think this is what is waking him up and wondered about getting cot bumpers. However I ve heard it's a no no because they might use it to climb out or suffocate. He's a clear boy and I worry he might end up playing with it or getting it free somehow .

He's also learnt to stand in his cot and I worry he might use it as a step to get out . But this has been going on for a long time now and doesn't seem to be a phrase. I move him back down to the end of the cot bed every time I go in to sooth him and he still ends up back up.

Did anyone else use one? Should I use one? Should I be worried ?

I have a 17mo DD and use cot bumpers for the same reason: when she became mobile she would wake up all the time hitting her head, after having been a very good sleeper. Soon as I put them in she went back to sleeping through.

She can stand in her cot, but wears a sleeping bag. She is also very tall and has never once climbed out of her cot using these. They are very thin and would collapse underneath her feet anyway.

Thanks for the info. I ve put one on today so hoping it makes a difference.

Have you got one or two on ? Mothercare assistant said people don't usually do two and I was bit worried about gap between them if I did. Do you find this a problem?

I've got two. She either sleeps at one end or the other! There's not a huge gap but she rarely seems to get in the position where the gap is a problem!

Try Airwrap - it can't be used to climb out with and baby can breathe through it if he gets his face against it. We have one and it's brilliant.

Agree about the Airwrap. My 1yo son is much more settled with it. Think he feels more secure and snug with one on either side, and I'm not worried if he shoves his face in it because it's breathable. Plus like SS3J said they can't use it to climb out as it collapses when they stand on it. I was worried about washing it for the first time but came up really well and dries so quick over the radiator.
