DS 2.3 waking badly from nap

My Ds age 2.3 is a really good sleeper, but more often than not wakes from his after lunch nap (1.5 to 2 hrs)hysterical. He is pretty inconsolable and I have learned just to hold him and tend him and eventually he comes out of it, it's so sad to see him like this. Any suggestions

Nope
sometimes they are sweet little sweaty warm bundles that cling on and let you stroke them, some times they go bonkers. IME it's never predictable you just have to play it by ear when a 2 year old wakes from a nap. They set the tone and you just have to go with it

DS was often like that. In desperation, when he woke, I sometimes resorted to putting a childrens CD or sometimes DVD/TV on loud enough so that he could hear it upstairs. The distraction often worked to calm him down, also he was keen to come downstairs to see what was on.

Ds1 used to do this. sometimes it would be sobbing, other times it would be pure plain anry and rattyness.

I read on here yonks ago that it's something to do with blood sugar levels. When they wake up they are really on a low so need to boost it...of course getting anyone to eat something as soon as they open their eyes isn't easy but I tried it and when I could persuede him to eat a biscuit or something he's come right out of it.

well hallo hallo

dd does this and like ladyhatt said... food and some drink as soon as they will take it. I find dd settles down quickly after that. The hugs are beautiful too of course!

thanks folks,

guess I just needed reassurance that it is 'normal' behaviour, it can get so extreme at times. Yes food does seem to help so shall keep on with the raisons and hugs

yeah, DS was like this for a while too, especially after a longer nap. a banana and a cup of milk used to do the trick.

My ds def used to do this. It was made worse as usually we had to go straight out to collect childminding child from school.
I did the tv thing if we weren't going out or a drink and jaffa cake etc! He was sometimes so mad that I just had to wait next to cot till he calmed down. He hated to come out of his cot till he was 100% ready. Not always possible though...
