....and its driving me mad!

I know i should be grateful that he sleeps 12 hours a night(!) but it drives me mad that he doesnt sleep by day, mainly because he so obviosuly needs a sleep and is extremely grumpy if he doesnt have one. I have a 3.7yr old dd who also needs my time but who invariably loses out due to ds being grumpy and therefore needing my attention.

I have tried literally everything: taking him out in the car, the buggy, swaddling, letting him go to sleep whilst bfing etc etc and although he might go to sleep initially, he usually wakes himself up after a few mins!

Anyone, please?

Oh dear,k I am sorry nothing is working for you. Did you try propping him up a bit to sleep?

Mandymoo · 19/08/2006 22:00

yeah but that didnt work either. AM really running out of things to try

Does he wake up when you put him down? Gosh how maddening for you.

Mandymoo · 19/08/2006 22:08

pretty much yeah - any suggestions?

Hmm.

How about a grobag, and keep a blanket under his head while you cuddle him, then whenyou put him dow, keep your arms there for a few seconds untyil he gets used to the new location - also, is he warm enough? As whne you put him down you don't want to have to faff with blankets, put the blankets on him first.

ds2 is sleeping in a baby grow, growbag, and two blankets when the weather is like this.

How dark is his room? My LO wouldnt sleep unless in it was like night - so we had to get a blackout blind. Worth a try maybe

She would also never sleep during the day unless we put her to bed (obviously once we saw she was tired) and left. Never fell asleep in prams etc :-(

Thanks for the replies - he is already in a gro bag and has been since day one. His room isnt the darkest but i dont want him to be only able to sleep in pitch black rooms - not very practical imo.

I actually think he may be teething atm which is perhaps making his quest for sleep harder.

I know sleep deprivation is awful, I have twins, ds & dd and had 2 hours sleep a night for the first month, I was dead on my feet! my first child who is now 10 fed every hour for 4 weeks when he was born!

Have you anybody you know who could take baby a walk whilst you give your undivided attention to other child?

I know just to have demands screamed at you constantly is a nightmare! I go spare if my twins don't at least sit on settee with me for a rest in afternoon, I'd go scranny! mind you they don't go to sleep until 11pm and twin1 ds wakes at 5 in morning, no rest for the wicked!

You have my full sympathy, chin up, sleep well at night, and phone a friend in daytime.

I have Home Start who I got through my doctor, advertised on internet aswell! they are a god send, they come once a week for 2 hours, you can do what you like in that time, go to sleep, play with 3 yo, have a bath, tidy up, anything. I have had them for nearly 3 years now. I am sure if you explained your predicament to health visitor they would recommend you!

Good luck
