How do I get baby to go to sleep with DH and bottle rather than Mummy and boob?

I am going back to work P/T and need exclusivly breast fed DD (12 wks old) to go to sleep for her Daddy. Her bed time routine is well established and she sleeps for 9-12 hours at night (hooray!) however I still feed her to sleep and need advise on getting her to settle without me. She will take bottles of EBM during the day. Any advise welcomed.

She'll be fine - it will be how she goes to sleep when it's just Daddy and her. Well, that's been true for DS1 when I went back to work and for DS2 when I have the (very) occasional night out.

Agree with Hunker. My DS (although v late in the day - was toddling lol) was used to only me feeding. Refused bottles in fact.

When I went back to work it took him, oh, about 2 days to get used to it. Had me worried for months he did!

She'll be fine.

Thanks for the reassurance, I worry about everything, especially leaving her. Hope you're right. Thanks for posting

Dear Gymbird
Have a 12 week old son who sleeps usually only 3.5- 4 hours max between feeds at night (unusually did a 5.5 hour stint last night when put to bed very late and skiped dream feed). Also breast feed but dh has been doing 10.30pm dream feed with formula for last 2 weeks-ish. Any tips on encouraging longer sleep periods at night?

Hi I think we are just very lucky, she was a big girl (9lb)so probably can hold on for food for a longer time. Until recently she would cluster feed for up to 5 hours an evening, so think she was stocking up for the night! I always kept the night feeds really quiet and put her straight down afterwards, making night time different from the day. When she was new born we put her down to sleep at 11, she would wake at 1, 4 and 6/7, at 3 weeks old she dropped the 1 o'clock feed, at 4 weeks the 4, and has been sleeping through since. I fed her loads throughout the day so maybe that helped. I think she always knew night time was for sleeping, as we have a routine that generally we stick to (nothing complicated just bath, into sleepsuit, song and feed) and as long as she's full then, which can take a while, thats it for the night. Like I said, don't think it's down to my parenting, I'm just lucky. She will also sleep better if she naps 2-3 hours in the day, but she fights it so have to rock her in the pushchair. Hope this helps a bit!
