Couple of questions for experienced co-sleepers

I am due in October and am considering co-sleeping for at least part of the night for the first few months and obviously want to do so as safely as possible. I have a couple of questions which I am sure the experienced co-sleepers can answer for me.

  1. They say to keep the baby away from pillows, duvets etc. By Oct I will definitely be wanting my lovely thick duvet overnight. How do you manage to keep little one away from duvet but keep yourself (and them) warm?
  2. The reason for wanting to co-sleep is so that for night feeds I can latch the baby on and then drift back to sleep. My concern is over baby falling out of bed when they are latched onto the side next to the edge of the bed rather than snuggled between me and DH. Do I need to be concerned or do you tend to have a bed guard just to be on the safe side? Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

same side feeding is probably safer tbh if your not overly endowed, i can do it but terrified of falling asleep and suffocating baby with my boob!

i co-slept with dd til she was 1 and am now co-sleeping with ds 2.5 weeks. they start the night in their crib or cot until the first time they wake after i come to bed, then i pull them in with me

i always try and keep baby in the middle of the bed between dp and me, i go right to the edge and curl around baby so theres plenty of room between baby and dp and even if he does roll on us or fling an arm out i'm wrapped around baby in such a way thet he'd wake me instantly if that makes sense.... i have one arm above babies head, my legs pulled up underneath baby and my other arm laid across baby's legs, that way i also wake the second baby stirs.

never had much trouble with duvets as as long as the house was warm enough and i was wearing a top i manage fine with the duvet at waist height.
