Emily started sleeping 8hrs a night and this lasted 2wks then she started teething and i can understand her waking more due to this.

The problem is now her teeth arn't bothering her and she wakes after 3-4hrs then again after 5hrs and 30mins.
ihave tried giving water at the first waking though she SCREAMS until i give her milk.

I don't want to try CC and think that PU/PD method would cause her to cry just for the fact she gets picked up

ANY IDEAS WELCOME

I think you should leave her to cry. I know it sounds cruel but getting the sympathy while she was teething has made her realise what she has to do to get your attention. Ds2 is only four months and I do the controlled crying. In fact I've just done it tonight for the last hour and he's settled now.

EKM, If you don't think she needs the milk in the night then go 'cold turkey' and don't give her any (or you could leave a cup/bottle of water in the cot). If she's getting plenty of food/milk in the day then it is most likely just habit or for comfort. IME, the pattern will not change until this is stopped. When she does wake, leave her to settle herself. This may involve 10mins of crying but she will soon get the message. We have to repeat this after every teething bout.

[Funny, I can easily give advice about evening sleep as DS has been good 5/7 nights a week for the last few months, but I'm still working on the crappy day-time sleep!] HTH.

If you don't want to go cold turkey them cut down the feed that you give her by an ounce a week. I did this and by the time we got down to an ounce of milk mixed with an ounce of water she decided it wasn't worth waking up for

I would try CC as she is getting the attention she wants and you could cure this in a few nights if you persevere. It doesnt need to be stressful either.

Ferber - the guru of controlled crying - suggests you stop the night feeds before doing it. You just comfort her to sleep but stay strong and don't give any milk - maybe give water during the transition. She may just stop waking once she realises milk isn't coming, but if not, then you can do cc once you've stopped giving milk.

Sorry to hijack the the thread but I'm in a very similar position to yourself except that DS has taken to sticking his fingers down his throat. I tried controlled crying in the past and he screamed for hours before being violently sick. I dont give him any milk in the night and ye last night I was up hourly. (hes never slept well) any advice? Sympathy to emilykatesmum

Same boat here ladies, my daughter is 11 months and still doesn't sleep all the way through the night.

She starts out in her cot, but rolls over into the big bed at about 10.30-11pm when she goes straight back to sleep. She then usually wakes at least once or twice during the night, if it's any time before 4am I give tea/water, if it's 4am or after I give her a bottle of milk.

But unfortunately, some of us just don't have great sleepers

dh started controlled crying with dd2 (11mths)last night, me in another room. so far it's been averagely hideous, she cried a lot between 8 and 11, then calmed down and only woke once..
dd1 on the other hand woke up twice

Tea? Why do you give tea? it has caffeine in it and won't help her sleep at all! Or do you mean camomile tea?
