New problems settling to sleep at 9 -10 months

DD is 9.5 months and since she has become more mobile she has been more and more difficult at bedtime and naptimes. She has always settled herself (some crying for 5 mins or so) and will not go to sleep if there is any stimulation ie anyone in the room (she's been like this from a very early age when we realised she wouldnt sleep at all during the day unless we put her in a blacked out room and left her to it - she wouldnt fall asleep on me even as a little baby).

However, even if she is clearly tired and relaxed when having her evening bottle, she sits up as soon as you try to leave the room and gets herself in a tizzy. I realise some of this may be normal seperation anxiety that sets in around this time but she isnt bad about this during the day ie you can leave the room etc, so i think it is more about the mobility.

I do go back in to check on her, sooth her etc (dont pick her up) but she is definitely crying for longer than she used to.

any advice or is this just something that will pass?

alice

it's a well documented phenomenon that sprogs are very restless at night once they learn to crawl/walk. DS was a bloody nightmare for about a month after he took approx 5 steps.

Ds was quite similar. We found a sleeping bag really helped. It was around this stage that we started giving ds a teddy for the night too. Otherwise I'd just persevere with PUPD and wait for it to pass.

thanks everyone. We are just about coping with the bedtimes - some not so bad, so still dragging on but now we have a new problem in the night!

She is waking around 3ish and crying for an hour or so. In the past she always resettled herself but now if i go in to check on her /reassure her she is sitting up, looking exhausted and like she desperately wants to sleep but cant. She is crawling etc and has no problem lying down so she isnt stuck.

I am going in every 10-15 mins (lights off) and leaving again after a minute or so but it doesnt seem to help much.

No signs of hunger, cold/hot etc. What is going on??! and any tips. Do i just carry on with the CC?

thanks
