What do you do when your DC wakes at 4am?

DS has never been a good sleeper but at 12mo he is slowly improving Sad when he's not teething he will still stir every couple of hours but I just breastfeed him back to sleep (don't have the heart to sleep train!) but occasionally he's just wide awake at ridiculous o'clock. DH and I take turns in getting up with him if it happens. Just wondering how others handle it.

I used to just keep feeding. She had no other option I'd keep swapping sides till she fell asleep.

My ds who is 10 weeks though seems to only want to suck for food... so who knows what I'll do when he gets to that stage unhelpful

I do anything I can to get him back to sleep, even if it takes a couple of hours, refuse to entertain getting up before 6am. Bf, rock, cuddle, dummy etc.
Doesn't always work obviously (sat here cuddling 9mo DS2 in the dark right now and he's been awake since 4,grr!) but if they do go back to sleep that extra couple of hours you get is sooooo worth it!!Wink

This morning I fed him for ages but to no avail. I've tried the not getting up thing, but it does usually take 2 hours and it's so depressing sitting in the dark with him getting more frustrated. He starts off very cute at least so that softens the blow of actually getting up. Have been reading about naps and I think it happened this morn because he had a really long nap yest arvo, so will have to watch for that. He's just one of those babies who doesn't need that much sleep - I'm getting used to it!
