My two week old just will not settle at all. Is white noise worth trying or am I creating a bad habit. Help!

I don't think bad habits are possible with newborns... White noise can be great. DS is 17weeks and we have just started using Ewan the dream sheep for bedtime. I can imagine doing it for quite some time to come!

We use Ewan too, he's great for naps but not really working at nighttime yet Sad Whatever works I say. Apparently I slept or rather didn't with a radio on low, my mum says it worked a charm and now in my (late shhhhhh) thirties I don't require any assistance to sleep! Mind you I don't get much of it these days, DD had white noise early on she now prefers picking a tune on her music box which plays for 20mins as she falls asleep Grin

I bought a slumber bear with thelittle white box
got my money's worth out of it!!
Ds was ill a lot as a baby and it was motion sensing, absolutely amazing.
When it was on its last legs I recorded what we used the most on my phone
he listened to it up until nearly 2years old!

It's easy to phase out slowly when you want to, just by moving further away, so I wouldn't worry.

I had a fab cd that came free with a pregnancy magazine. Gentle tunes set to the rhythm of a heartbeat in the background. I listened to it so often while sat on the floor of my DD's bedroom waiting for her to sleep.

Sadly, that was 13 years ago and no idea where you'd get one from, though it was great.

Do whatever you need to for the first 6 weeks. No such thing as bad habits with a newborn - there is no "rod" for your back.

Obviously, follow the safety guidance (SIDS, car seat straps etc), but don't worry about white noise, baby sleeping on you or baby feeding to sleep. Plenty of time for all that later.

Congratulations!

I used a ewan too!
now at 17 months she won't sleep unless classical fm is on low, out like a light. it was a mn suggestion I was given, i call it.my lifesaver Smile

With us it just stopped working. So go for it while you can!

The science is supposed to be that newborns can't cope with more than two overriding senses, so when tired they scream to shut their eyes and to block out external noises. The white noise cuts out the noise for them and helps them fall asleep... or something.

We stopped using it around six months or so, and switched to one of those Tomy Star things. White noise was amazing for those 6 months though and it meant she slept in the pub
