Just that really. Dd is moving out of her cot, into a bed. Never done this before so not sure what the rules are... She's 27 months...

Stairgate at the top of the stairs!

TheFabulousIdiot · 10/01/2014 23:16

Sorry should be ? Not !

ilovepowerhoop · 10/01/2014 23:17

we had a stairgate at the top of the stairs

lilyaldrin · 10/01/2014 23:18

I had a stairgate on DS's door. We couldn't fit one at the top of the stairs anyway.

ThisIsMeNow · 10/01/2014 23:18

Do people stairgate the stairs and the bedroom? Or just stairs?

2kidsintow · 10/01/2014 23:19

Stairgate at top of stairs here too.

That meant that DD slept on the landing for the first week of being in her toddler bed, but later that she could take herself to the toilet if she needed it when she got bigger or could toddle through for a cuddle in the morning without me having to get out of bed (lazy).

All children (actually all people) should sleep with the door closed. Very important for fire safety. That door could be 30 minutes that the fire fighters have to save her life. No door, no minutes. Just make sure she can't fall down the stairs.

yummymumtobe · 10/01/2014 23:20

We don't have either as dd screamed the house down as she felt 'trapped'. At her 2 year check at docs they actually advise against gates for toddlers as trying to climb over can cause them more injury.

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 10/01/2014 23:20

I just put one on the stairs, but I wasn't particularly bothered by the idea of DS coming into my bed, in fact I wanted him to feel able to do so if he had a bad dream or something. Am probably odd though Grin

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 10/01/2014 23:24

Huh, climbing argument seems odd to me. Obviously if you have a climber more care is required but I had one on the stairs far longer than he could actually open it because I was worried about half asleep stumbling leading to falls.

agnesf · 10/01/2014 23:29

We had stairgate at top of stairs but tbh neither of our DCs got out of bed. We had a couple of days with DS of sitting in our bedroom and putting him back but with DD she just got in big bed and stayed there. The main issue was in the morning but even then they mainly just made their way to our room.

I think if your DD feels happy and safe in big bed and knows where to find M&D when they wake up you should be fine.

MrsDandBaby · 10/01/2014 23:36

We have a stairgate on 2.5yr old DS door - more to keep him out of sisters room at night and early mornings.

Also have stairgate at top of stairs to keep him upstairs after baths or downstairs when DH is working upstairs. We don't sleep with doors shut as both kids can open them and we wouldn't be able to hear them if needed in the night.

bouncysmiley · 10/01/2014 23:40

We have stairgate on stairs but she can't open her own door yet so not sure...she can open ours though

Our 'landing' is one metre by one metre so I have visions of ds stumbling out of the bedroom and headlong down the very steep stairs so keeping the stair gate. He's not a climber.
