She's 10m and a shit sleeper :(

I've been getting her to sleep easily (staying asleep is another matter) with some gentle lullabies on my iPad for the past couple of months. She's a dreadful wriggler and shuffler but with the music on she seems to chill a bit and stops writhing long enough to go to sleep.

I've stopped doing it for the last couple of weeks (out of routine of it with Xmas etc) and I've suddenly realised it's been taking four or five times as long to get her to settle enough to sleep if she doesn't have music on.

Am I nuts to consider playing it all night?

Would it create yet another terrible dependency, along with the dummy/being hoiked into Mummy's bed at 1am dependency I've already managed to create in her?

And really, would it actually matter?????!!! If she could only sleep with gentle music playing every bloody night for the rest of her life, but gained a mummy who wasn't close to a nervous breakdown every night???

Is white noise a better bet?

Really just asking if anyone has done this and if so if it was a good idea or just another way to screw up in the long term :( create a sodding rod for your own back etc etc :(

I often play white noise (waves are my favourite though, not actual white noise) all night, or it is on a timer so can set for an hour etc. I think it helps me sleep too! I've given up on dependencies - first dc needed a blankie, needed waves, needed a dummy - but he has long past given those up. So I am hoping/assuming dc2 will be the same!

Have you thought about buying a white nisse machine instead of using the ipad?

No lights then, we've used the Lullaby sound machine (first years I think) from birth, it parts lullabys, rain, waves and heartbeat sounds has volume control, sound sensor, optional light and 15 minute settings.

That said I'm not sure how much good its doing as my DD slept great until 4 months and has been a nightmare since :o

I didn't ever 'do' white noise so I don't know if that would have worked for my dd just as well.

I listened to classical music myself when I had insomnia and it definitely made a difference.

Considering this for early waking 19mo, any experience in early risers?? Any recommendations?

I really recommend the fisher price precious planet mobile. It plays either a song, waves or heartbeat and has a light show too if needed (we only use the light show to 'surprise ' DD into settling down now she's older).
Has a remote so you can crack open the door and get the sounds going again while you're getting ready for bed etc.

And yes at one stage I did indeed play noise all night, from simplynoise.com

Whatever works, just persevere with whichever sleeo crutch you decide on :)

Hi, for those who's baby won't sleep, try putting this YouTube music on its helps our little one sleep.

I known what your thinking music will Int keep them awake, but the wave sounds and music really calms them down.

I have gentle thunderstorms play on loop on an ipod in 15mo DD2s room, rain is very soothing and it works a treat for her Smile

Having the permanent background noise also means we don't disturb her moving around upstairs, and she doesn't hear people outside etc.

I see this is an old thread but just in case anyone is still reading this we used white noise to help with sleep and it really worked. this was the track that seemed to work the best - open.spotify.com/track/47xa5DYQlvspSi1TurNana?si=VPgaypELTJydTo5WK_c7yw
