What if I just put 8 month old in cot awake? Could it work?

LO pretty bad sleeper. We were making progress using NCSS before Christmas but then we had teething, a cold, and were away for a week.

So now taking 2-3 hrs to settle and longest stretch is 2hrs.

We are co-sleeping using side sleeper and bf to almost asleep. Have set bedtime routine.

We were about to move LO to own room before Christmas and then it all went wrong.

So I'm tempted to try something more radical (not CC or CIO).

I'm wondering if I put LO in cot awake but drowsy from feed (side back on cot) whether he might magically learn to settle. We'd return to room to comfort if he starts to get upset. But if ok or just grisly then leave him. He can self-settle sometimes in the night.

I may be hugely deluded here and he may just scream in which case forget it. I'm just thinking I've not tried it so maybe worth a go.

Anyone had any success like this???

It's worth a try.

I started to do this with dd at around 7 months. I had previously fed her to sleep, until it stopped working, I then started I lying with her until she fell asleep. Then one day when she was pulling at my face and clothes I got so frustrated that I plonked her in her cot and walked out of the room. (You know, one of those 'I need to get away from them before I go mad' moments?) Well, miraculously she self settled after a few minutes of grizzling. and I nearly fainted with shock.
Apart from the odd bad patch she's been a self settler every since. (now 14mo)

Good luck!

Oh God Absolutely.

Feeding them to sleep and/or staying until they settle is just not for me. Bed means sleep - they sooner they learn to self-settle the better. You are doing them a huge favour - they need sleep, self settling is important for this.
