Nearly 1 year old suddenly started waking in the night wanting a bottle

DD2 will be 1 in a couple of weeks. She started sleeping through the night at around 10 weeks old. She has always been a hungry baby - I wasn't able to breastfeed so she has been having the formula for extra hungry babies. She eats well during the day as well as having around 5 to 6 bottles of milk. For the last couple of weeks she has been waking in the night wanting a bottle. As soon as she gets the bottle she goes straight back to sleep, doesn't want attention, just seems hungry. Sometimes she is almost half asleep when I give her the bottle but if she doesn't get it she will carry on crying until she does!

She shares a room with her 2 year old sister so I tend to just give her the bottle so she doesn't wake DD1 up.

Any ideas to get her sleeping through again? Should I move her into the sitting room to sleep and not give her the bottle at night? Should I feed her even more during the day? She has 1 daytime nap early afternoon.

Can you offer her a cup of water instead? Perhaps she is just thirsty. She is drinking a lot of milk in the day and eating well so she doesn't need to have milk at night as well, I wouldn't get back into that habit if I were you.

It does.t sound like she needs more food in the day

Yes I think it is a bad habit rather than being really hungry. My Mum thinks she needs a dummy!! Will try the water, thanks brighton

I could be wrong as my DD has never used a dummy, but I think it's probably a bit late at 1 to introduce.

If she eats well with plenty of dairy etc, could you consider dropping some of the daytime bottles, and working towards introducing a cup instead? The reason I say this is because, perhaps she's becoming a bit depending on sucking bottles and waking for a comforting suck if you know what I mean? 5-6 in the day is quite a lot (depending on their size?) and you could afford to drop a couple and her still be nutritionally fine.

Yes 5 bottles a day is a lot!! I will try the cup. She slept all night last night as I put her in sitting room and not in her older sister's room. Maybe the quietness helped. Thank you!
