At 5 weeks I just kept them with me and took them to bed when I went although with dc2 I did sometimes give her a bath about 8 and get her ready, but still fed her on the settee.

She is 6 now and its lights out at 7pm, dc1 is 9 and goes to bed at 7.30 but we read till 7.45. Both go later in the school holidays.

I started putting my babies to bed after their last feed at 6pm from about 5 weeks. It took a lot of perseverance and settling them for a few weeks.

They are 15 months now and go to bed between 6pm-6:30pm

My 6 month old DD2 goes to bed at around 7pm & has done since a few weeks old. She sleeps (and wakes, feeds etc!) until around 7am.

I can't remember what we did with DD1, but whatever it was, it didn't work that well....

We bath our 11 week old around 8pm then try to settle him but he'll rarely sleep before about 2am Hmm
Trying to remedy this as we'd like to get his bedtime earlier but not much is working so far!

I tried to instigate a 7pm bedtime when DD was very little (can't remember when exactly but less than 9 weeks) due to reading bloody GF. Lots of resettling required as neversleep says.

However, with hindsight I really regret doing this so early - it meant she had her best/deepest sleep from 7pm till midnight and was much more unsettled after that, especially from 3am onwards.

When they are tiny they only have one long stretch of sleep (5/6 hours) and that tends to be their deepest sleep too, so it's best if that coincides with your own sleep time.

With future DC I will keep them up till my own bedtime until they are quite a bit older, at least 14 weeks I'd say.

Of course if you have one of these miraculous babies that likes to sleep for 12 hours from an early age then it doesn't really matter Grin

What minipie says makes sense.

My 16 weeker has bath time at 630, then bottle, goes to sleep between 715 and 730.

We started this routine at 8 weeks, it took a while but she gets it completely now and goes down like a stone.

Personally I think 5 weeks is a little ambitious as they are still so mall then.

DD is 8 weeks and I'm certain the only reason I feel fairly human is because I've not attempted a bedtime routine yet and whilst I bathe her etc she stays up with us, feeding and dozing until my bedtime. DH staying in spare room so we are co sleeping and this way we are getting a good chunk of sleep together. She wakes usually after 4 or 5 hours, feeds then back to sleep for another few hours.

I'm a stickler for routine in general and look forward to my evenings with DH but for now sleep is more important. With DD1 I started a proper bedtime routine around 12 weeks. She was a much more compliant baby though Wink
