Screaming every night and drinking up to 16oz milk a night!

Well I thought my first post would be how to make perfect yorkshire puddings but thiss is way more important.

dd2 is up most of the night screaming at the moment. age 8 months
We have a good bedtime routine and normally goess down at about 8pm. But then annytime from midnight onwards she'll start screaming and I don't mean crying....she's screaming!
At first I thought that she wasn't well but have now ruled that out as this has been going on for weeks and she's fine during the day.
Has 2/3 naps during the day anywhere from 20mins to an hour and will go down fine.

She'll also drink up to 2x 8oz bottles in the night. Tried everything to try and get her to drink more before bedtime but sshe doesn't want to know. Triend a dream feed about 10 or 11pm but she's not interested.

So after another night of hardly any sleep, I REALLY need some advice. Me and dh are up most of the night between us and ass we're so tired we're starting to snap at each other, which as you can imagine makes matters even worse.

So PLEASE HELP!!

anytime!

That's great Alicemama!!
I only know a lot about weaning and foods because I paid a 'baby expert' woman who took DD and I through the first year regarding feeding and sleeping. Was fantastic. She's in South Africa, although she does do long-distance consultations. All my friends go to her and she's really fantastic.
Don't feel bad. At least you posted on MN and now hopefully the end is in sight.
Good Luck and let us know how things go. Bet you that within the week DD will be off bottles at night altogether.

CADS · 26/07/2006 17:49

Jampot - She's not in Durban by any case?

jambot · 26/07/2006 19:47

No, Cape Town, but as I said, quite a bit of her business is done on the telephone. It's better than nothing if you're frantic about what to do.

alicemama · 26/07/2006 22:11

Thanks Jambot, glass of wine and big bar of choccie for you as well.

She's like a different baby, all smiles today. I'm going to make such a fuss of her, freezer is full of lots of homemade dishes.....she had sspag bol with mince and lentils for tea, went down a treat.

Thanks to you all

Anytime. DD's favourite at this age was chicken, avo and banana.

foxinsocks · 27/07/2006 09:10

well done alicemama and don't feel bad. Crikey, if we all knew the answers to everything, the world would be a very boring place! That's why this forum can be so useful because your dd2 certainly isn't the first baby who's tried the old 'lots of milk at night' routine .

If your baby likes avo (like jambots, both mine did - must be those S African genes!) it is a really nice and filling food for them. Good luck with all your cooking and hopefully, you'll be getting some more sleep quite soon!

jambot · 27/07/2006 09:59

Avo is a brilliant food. Full of lots of good stuff, although must say that DD prefers it with the banana to make it sweeter. Yes, we eat tons of avo out here. South African favourite - avo, bacon and feta pizza - yummy

jambot · 27/07/2006 10:00

Are you originally from SA then Foxinsocks?

alicemama · 27/07/2006 10:05

Must try some for her, how do I pick a ripe one.
I've bought some in the past and they've been rock hard.

If you feel one with your fingers it should give slightly. Also delicious on toast with lots of black pepper and a bit of salt.

foxinsocks · 27/07/2006 17:16

my dad is SAfrican jambots - I spent 10 years studying and then working there. Are you there now?

If the avos are really hard, you can put them in a dark drawer and they will ripen really quickly although in this weather, I doubt they stay unripe in the fruit bowl for long.

jambot · 27/07/2006 18:54

Yes, I live in Cape Town. British born but my parents moved here when I was two, so essentially a South African.

CADS · 27/07/2006 19:19

Jambot - Please can you CAT me her details? Might need to call her next time I'm home. Also, my friends might need some help too.

Hmm, avos! We use to have avo trees in our garden when I was little. I use to have avo for breakfast, lunch and supper. Surprised I never went off them.

Really, miss the nice fresh soft fruits (mangos, pawpaw, kiwi, AVO etc) that you get in SA.

jambot · 27/07/2006 20:59

Her name is Lynne Woods. Lost her number when I lost my mobile last week. Will find out from a friend and let you know. Will do it on here - haven't signed up for CAT.

jambot · 27/07/2006 21:00

She a no-nonsense type and into routines etc. So if you're more the attachment parenting, earth mother type then she's probably not for you.

CADS · 27/07/2006 21:24

Thanks Jampot. I'll keep an eye on this post for her number.

alicemama · 28/07/2006 08:22

Off to get an avo this morning and some other nice fruit.
Wouldn't mind some more ideas for breakfasst pls, think she's getting fed up of porridge and weetabix!

Blended cooked pears with yoghurt. (lots of fibre). You can add a few teaspoons of cereal to that. Mixed stewed fruit with the same(prunes, apples, apricots etc). I always add a teaspoon of blackstrap molasses to DD's porridge/cereal. Fantastic source of iron. Smells horrid but fine when mixed in with the cereal.

foxinsocks · 28/07/2006 09:58

all my immediate family are now in Cape Town (mum, dad, sisters) though I have around 50 relatives still spread out all around Jo'burg. I also went to UCT and had a fantastic time!

Am trying to persuade one of my sisters to come back here (she was here for a few years but went back again)!

foxinsocks · 28/07/2006 10:00

can she chew on toast yet (not sure if she is too young)? buttered toast is great for them to chew on in the morning

love the black molasses idea - had never thought of that

alicemama · 28/07/2006 10:04

Yes she has a slice of toast or homemade rusk to suck on in between spoonfuls otherwise she'd have the spoon of me and most of her breakfast would be on the floor!

alicemama · 28/07/2006 11:16

Ooh just had a cople of avo in my veg box...that breakfast for tomorrow sorted!
