4mo sleeps with comforter over face, should I worry?

My ds1 is 4 months old and has just started using a comforter to settle himself to sleep. He chews it and uses his thumb for sucking while holding it, but 70% of the time he puts the whole thing over his face and this is how he settles himself.

It's a shop bought comforter (he has several from next, mothercare etc) with a small cuddly Teddy or similar in the corner. He seems to be able to breathe ok, but during the night I wait until he's asleep and then remove it because I worry. This can take 30 mins or so when I'd rather be in bed, so should I worry or is it ok for him to sleep with this over his face?

Any advice is appreciated ??

I would do what you're doing too :)

Ds2 did this. I think he was a bit older. We weren't happy but he would scream if he didn't have it over his face. As soon as he was asleep we took it off.

I wouldn't worry about it being a long lasting thing, my dd used to do that but it's not an issue at 7 months. Does he sleep on his back? Has he started moving into his side yet?

I would still remove it also ....but I was a but neurotic didnt even have teddies in cot until one Confused

Thanks! Yes he sleeps on his back and he hasn't started moving to his side yet. He can pull it off himself, but can also put it back over his face, hence me removing it.

I wonder if it's that they like nice fabric on their face, to snuggle into? I know it was an issue for us and then dd figured out how to get in her tummy and then she forgot about it!

lol at figuring out how to get in her tummy. Genius.

Could you swap it for something more breathable like a muslin? I think I'd remove once he's asleep too though.
