Best mattress suggestions?

My 21 week old DD will be moving into her cot bed in her own room in 1-2 weeks time as she is nearly outgrown her moses basket. I have no choice to put her in her own room as the cot doesn't fit in our room.

I have been looking at what feels like a million and one mattresses and really can't decide which one is best!

I am looking for your opinions and if you could tell me which mattress you chose and why?

The main thing that is it important to me is knowing that if my DD rolls over and is face down, that she can still breathe ok. DD has been able to roll over for a couple of weeks now but unable to roll back onto her back yet. Also, she can't keep her head up for that long, 1 - 2 mins max - hence why I'm worried about her being face down on mattress!

TIA x

I got foam mattresses from John Lewis. We have cots not cot beds so went for a slightly cheaper option as will only be used until they are around 3 years old. I am very happy with them. They come with a protective cotton covering that you can wash.

We bought the Little Green Sheep Twist mattress. It has a firmer side for young babies and a softer side for toddlers. They're made from natural organic fibres and so are neither sprung nor foam.

They're not cheap but my brother gave us the cot and we thought that the mattress is the most important part of the bed really.

I wanted a good-quality, sprung mattress with natural fibres for DD and was surprised at how little choice there was. I was happy to spend a bit more as it will be used for a while on her cotbed so I bought a Silentnight Little Roo mattress. Very happy with it so far.

Mothercare have a great range, we went with their coolmax pocket sprung one. DD was still sleeping on her back when we moved her to her own room, she didn't become a tummy sleeper til about 7-8months. I particularly like the removable cover on the mattress was a godsend when we had a tummy bug in the house Grin

We got a John lewis pocket sprung one. I have fallen asleep with DD in her cotbed a few times and it is very comfortable but nice and firm.

I really rate the pocket sprung mattresses we got for DC's cotbeds from Baby Mattresses Online
Excellent quality and far superior to the absolutely crap and saggy single sprung mattress we have just got from Argos for DC's new bunk beds

Oh it is so individually, believe me. On my opinion foam mattresses are the best today, memory foam layer is unique and very comfortable, it is breathable and allows you to wake up without sneezing. Foam also favors cool sleeping, I appreciate this characteristic very much as I suffer from heat and sweating at nights all the time. Check very detailed review on best mattresses at this sleepissimple.co.uk/ , here you can find helpful info on the best models. I own few Eve Foam mattress, just decided to get one after tons of positive reviews in the web and particularly on Youtube. It is also suitable for newborns and little kids, so that I find it rather reasonable to advise it on this thread.
