What counts as sleeping through?

My 8wo sleeps a lot (bit too much for my liking really) he is more awakey in the evenings and I tend to take him up to bed with me at 11.30ish, change and feed and then he sleeps until 7.

He dropped his first night food and has dropped his second for about the last 10 days or so.

My firstborn didn't sleep through until he was 2.5 years old Hmm so to me this is great! But is that actually sleeping through or is it like a full 12 hours?

Doesn't matter really but just curious.

Well, in terms of an 8 wo its sleeping though. It would have been to me anyway. But then mine woke every hour until 11 months. Just be happy you have some opportunity to sleep.

To me, sleeping through was when I stopped having to get up to them in the night. Great to have a baby that sleeps. Life is much better when not knackered!

More than four hours Grin

That's sleeping through (imho). Basically you aren't having to wake in the middle of the night to feed. Lucky you!

Mine all slept through from 7-10 weeks. Always have been good sleepers (too good now; can't get them up in the morning).

'technically' speaking 5 hours. but there's no point loosing sleep about sleep imo Grin Grin Grin Grin (believe me I have!)

Whatever makes you happy! My 1yo sleeps from 7pm until 5am, after many struggles to get her to drop the 11,12.30,2 and 3.30 feeds. I count that as sleeping through, friends of mine are horrified that I get up every day at 5am.

Apparently, medically, it's 5 hours.

Yes, like Darjeeling and Robin say, in my development book it's classed as five hours.

My DD (2nd babe) was quite ill with bronchiolitis around 6 weeks, which coincided with her starting to sleep for bloody hours (10 or so?) at night without a wake for feeding. First night it happened I was really worried (I didn't realise until morning) but I had a trip to the doctor's that day and so could ask her if I should always wake to feed/ if it was linked to the illness. She looked vaguely at me as if I was mad and then said: 'No - some babies do just sleep this much at this age; you are very lucky.'

Sure enough, she recovered and the huge night sleeps continued, to my eternal gratitude (DS1 gave us more shit during the night; I was like a broken record saying what an easy baby she was and my life was actually made much harder by the 20m old).
