Backwards bib?

Feeding my 8 week old before bed. I will hold him upright while I burp him for about 20 minutes. He will certainly be sick on his neck and shoulders and need an outfit change during the night. His soft, velcro bib could be worn backwards like a cape, which I think would protect his babygro. The muslin under his head protects his sheet. A bib and a cloth are much easier to change in the night than an outfit and a sheet. Had anyone tried this? Is it safe?

I would leave a bib on no

Pointeshoes · 21/12/2013 18:41

Wouldn't *

HenriettaPie · 21/12/2013 18:42

Agree, I wouldn't leave a bib on overnight

SpoonfulOfJam · 21/12/2013 18:51

That's what I'm thinking really. Just fed up of listening to him sicking on himself and having to wake him up while I change him. Honestly, my heart sinks every time I hear it happen. Such a small thing but seems like such a big deal in the small hours.

Is he sick in his sleep?

AnythingNotEverything · 21/12/2013 18:58

How much does he sick? Would it be disastrous if you didn't change him?

I wouldn't leave a bib on overnight.

SpoonfulOfJam · 21/12/2013 19:09

Yeah, he sicks in his sleep. His moses basket is elevated at the head so he is not lying totally flat. I think this is helping slightly. He has in the past woken up when the wet on his collar or sleeve is wet and cold. To be fair though, I haven't left him to see if it still bothers him, for a couple of weeks now. Might be worth a go not to change him unless he wakes up.

What about a t-shirt in a larger size over his ? Taking it off might disturb him less than a full change. Or even a thin cardigan or jacket if he wouldn't be too hot.

I don't have any better suggestions than the above, but I just wanted to say - I know it is a big thing and I know the heart sinking feeling well, but this current problem will pass. It doesn't feel like it, but it will Smile

DoItTooBabyJesus · 21/12/2013 19:58

My GP said babies with constantly wet collars might have reflux, does he?

The t shirt is a great idea, or thin cardigan?

CottonSock · 21/12/2013 20:55

Our baby is quite is sicky, but I never changed her because of it in the night. Used barrier cream to protect her neck from GP. not worth leaving a bib on I would say.

SpoonfulOfJam · 21/12/2013 21:34

Thanks everyone, I like the little t shirt or cardigan idea. Barrier cream also sounds good. I don't know much about reflux- will do some reading up on it. From the very little I have read about it, my son does not appear to be in any pain or discomfort which I think is a feature of reflux. I do hope this passes- I've read that 3 months can be a turning point, so fingers crossed (although I have no doubt that when this passes, we will be thrown a new challenge to deal with!)

Sorry, I don't much about it (reflux) either, it was just something that stuck with me after she had said it.

Hope you work it out!

pinkr · 22/12/2013 11:33

My dd its a frequent sicker..I've found that having her in a sleeping bag helps, its usually wet but it doesn't soak through to the vest so she's dry.

SpoonfulOfJam · 22/12/2013 14:36

Pinkr, I have a sleeping bag but have been swapping it for a blanket once he's sick on it, but actually you make a valid point. (I really have lost the ability to think logically!)

Funnily enough, he wasn't sick last night, so I didn't need to change his clothes till morning when his nappy had leaked, by which time he was ready to start the day anyway.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions, really appreciate you taking the time to post.

yes sleeping bag helps too. Vaseline should work as barrier cream - if he gets the neck rashes like mine does. And tons of bibs on day time. almost 6 months and not grown out of it yet. maybe when on solids.
