2 year old not tired at bedtime.....time to cut nap ?

Hi - my 2.2 year old dd has always had an 8pm bedtime and used to fall asleep within 30 mins. However, in the last 3 or 4 weeks she doesn't seem tired when put in her cot and is taking up to 90 mins to fall asleep (average 60 mins). She will play with her toys, read a book for a while (no light on, just door ajar with light on in hallway) and I frequently have to go in to get her to lie down and be quiet when she complains/cries and wants to get up.

Her daytime nap varies from 1-2 hours and I am hoping not to get rid of this as I feel she still needs it. She is usually happy to go for her nap and is asleep in 10 mins.

She sleeps till between 7 & 8am.

I would love to hear if other toddlers her age are still having naps and how long they sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions ? Should I make her 'bedtime' later ? Or allow a 'light on' reading period for 30 mins and then switch off all lights and keep the room very dark.
I know she will need to move to a bed soon and I would like to get her into a better settling down routine before this.

Any advice appreciated.

It might just be a phase. Ds's sleep changes a lot. He's 2.5 and after waking at 5.30ish for ages (felt like all eternity!) he's not waking at 7.30 or later and sleeping up to three hours in the day - don't really know why.
BTW my ds is 2.5 and very happy in his cot. No plans to move him. Why are you thinking bed atm?

Thanks Aloha - hopefully just a phase. Was interested in others bedtime routines though. Does your ds go to sleep soon after going to bed or does he read/play etc ?

About the moving to bed - she has successfully jumped out once and I have caught her almost scaling the sides on a few occassions

My DS definitely learned to make a deliberate effort to keep himself awake at that age, and now engages in all kinds of strategies to do so, flinging himself around and doing acrobatic stunts etc. Perhaps your DD is entering that phase! Also, could she be OVER TIRED? They generate adrenalin to keep going once tired, and then the adrenalin keeps them awake. But I suppose you could limit the nap to 1 hr. What time does she have her nap? If she is waking up any later than 3pm, it could be preventing her sleeping in the evening.
If she has jumped out, my own choice would be to mover her into a little low bed, partly because you can't sleep easily thnking that next time they might break their neck, and partly because once DS developed a sense that he was constrained by his cot he made it his life's work to fight against it, not at all conducive to settling down to rest, and eventually leading to bad carpet burns on forehead at 20 months!

We do anything we can to prevent DS2 (aged 2.5) from falling asleep during the day as even a ten-minute catnap seems to set up for ages and I hate it if he doesn't fall asleep within ten minutes of going in his cot. (He goes in at 8 p.m. and sleeps until 7.30 ish.)

Hello i am new to this so hello everyone,
My husband and i r finding it hard to get our little girl to stay in her room and go to sleep at night, we r just trying to get her out of getting into bed with us in the middle of the night that is not going to bad, but it is the drag of getting her to sleep in the first place which sometimes takes up to 4 or 5 hours from first time we put her in bed, it is a nightmare, any ideas will be very welcome THANKYOU
