how do you keep your DC warm at night?

My 3 mth ds seemed cold last night. The temperature fell to 15c in our room, he was wearing a long sleeved vest, long sleeve/leg jamas, socks and was in a 2.5tog sleeping bag. Blankets are hopeless as he is a ridiculous fidget. His face and hands were freezing cold, right up to his elbows but his chest and back of neck warm and not noticeably cold. I'm worried about piling on layers due to overheating but also don't want him to wake and feed more due to the cold. What does your DC wear in the winter? Any mn words of wisdom gratefully received!

did he wake up cold? You could put a cardigan on him or try a 3.5tog bag that is designed for rooms that go below 16ºC at night

Can you not put some kind of heating on at least in your bedroom? I do think 15 is too cold for a small baby.

I use a 3.5 tog and a small oil filled radiator turned to a low setting with a thermostat so room temp doesn't get too cold hard to find 3.5 tog bags though got mine in jojomamanbebe - not cheap!

Thank you all, warmer sleeping bag and cardy it is. Heating stays on but we have a cold house.

You could try the 'duvet weight' merino wool sleeping bags. Merino Kids and Bambino Merino both do them. They're not cheap, but they last up until 2 yo. We've got the regular weight ones and 7.5 mo DD has a short-sleeved vest, a sleepsuit on under the sleeping bag in a room that stays at about 18 or 19 overnight (we keep the heating on low too as she's always felt the cold).

If it's mostly his hands, Matalan used to do sleepsuits with built in scratch mittens - basically the end of the sleeves has a flap that you flip over and it covers their hands. You could see if they still do them.

Thank you. I like the look of the Merino sleeping bags. Mothercare do the suits with scratch mits but ds likes to suck his fingers.

I've gone with long sleeve vest, pjs, wadded sleep suit (the really padded ones) and then a 2.5 tog grobag. I think it has helped with night wakings a lot.

Is your cot attachable to your bed in any way? Last winter our dd was similar age and also in long sleeved vest, sleepsuits and grobag - however our bed and cot lined up (ikea) so we were able to stay in our sep bedding (no pillows for me and I was in a sleeping bag so no risk of smothering) but being able to lie closer - or not - was an easy way of warming her up or cooling her down. Fm 5 mths we were cosleeping - v easy as you dress them lightly and they sleep in your warmth but above the quilt....I would have been nervous cosleeping when she was 3 mths old though...if I have a 2nd I think I will though. Thanks all, he's in a co sleeper crib attached to my bed, too nervous for proper co sleeping at present! I've bought some long sleeved sleeping bags and some suits with padded arms to wear with the sleeveless ones. Hopefully that will do the trick Xmas Smile
