Confusion with NCSS and night feeds... not sure what to do!!

Just trying to get started on NCSS even though (depressingly) I've realised that we already do most of the things suggested - a few very good tips though so I want to try what I haven't already tried.

But am confused re the 6 stage plan and feeds... it looks as if by about stage 3 you are meant to be simply going in when they wake, soothing them back to sleep and NOT feeding.

I don't know if DD is ready to go all night without a feed!

She is 8.5m - is this a reasonable time to start night weaning?

Admittedly she is having less of her bottle in the night than she used to, and eating more in the day. She now only has about 5oz when she wakes rather than guzzling through 7oz and wanting more. (she is ff)

But I still think she needs a feed in the night at the mo - am I wrong?

The thing is that on the NCSS 6-phase plan, we are already at about phase 3, as she (mostly; though not for the past few days annoyingly enough) will be put back into her cot awake but drowsy, and I can usually get her back to sleep with just a hand on her and whispering 'soothing words', even though it takes a little while.

So it looks as if the next phase involves just going in when she wakes and soothing her without a feed...?

Actually I don't really know if NCSS is the right solution as really DD's problem isn't frequent night waking - she does cry out in her sleep 2 or 3 times a night but is pretty much always back to sleep (having found her dummy) by the time I get in... the problem is really Early Waking, and occasionally that it can take too long to get her back to sleep after her feed.

Not managed to get through whole of NCSS book yet, but can it help with Early Waking hell...? As that is really the biggest problem for me at the moment. And I worry that would get even worse if I didn't feed her once in the night.

Sorry for rambling long post, I'm sleep-deprived like almost everyone else on here :)

from 6 months I started offering progressively less in the night bottle e.g. dropped it from 6oz to 5oz and left it at that for a few days/a week, then dropped it to 4oz, etc, etc. I started that at 6 months and ds dropped his night feed by 8 months.

What are her daytime sleeps like and when does she go to bed at night/wake up in the morning? I used Wake to Sleep when mine were early waking (it is from the Babywhisperer) and it did seem to work. You disturb them about 1 hour before their usual wake up time and it's supposed to help them sleep past the early wake up time.
