Naptime? Screamfest! Help!

DD (eight months) has decided naps are for wimps. We put her down awake as usual, she's fine for a few minutes, then she starts screaming blue murder. Nothing we do seems to comfort her or persuade her to stop screaming. If it was an occasional nap disaster I could cope, but it's now happening every day. This morning we had an hour and a half of screaming before she gave up and went to sleep. This afternoon we've had an hour of screaming so far and she's showing no signs of flagging.

I am completely at a loss as to how to deal with this. What do I do for the best? She needs to nap, she's tired, but I don't know how to help her.

My ds 18 months has just started doing this, he just screams unless I sit with him, but my ds 3 find it difficult to be left downstairs for such long periods of time and comes looking for me.

It's soul destroying

Mine stopped napping in her cot at about that age. I gave up and just use walking (or pushing up and down the hall) the buggy to get her to sleep. She's a nightmare at night time too and I have to sit with her until she dozes off. I have a 'sleep is for the weak' baby, unlike my previous 'a bomb could go off in the next room and I wouldn't stir' one.

Sorry I'm no help at all Grin

Ah, it's helpful just knowing I'm not the only one! Grin Got a horrible feeling it's going to be one of those things where we just have to wait it out and hope she's figured it out by the time she's twenty five...

How many naps has she been having? Could it be that she's changing her nap routine? My dd started having 1 long nap at that age although she was a nightmare fir a while as she was too tired to last until after lunch for a nap and then ended up waking up very hungry! After a few weeks she got herself sorted and ended up napping 12-2.30/3 ish - she's 22 months old now and still naps from 12.30-2.30/3ish!

She was having three but we recently switched over to two, because she'd been resisting the last one with distressing regularity. But two instead of three means each awake period needs to be a bit longer. Overtiredness could be an issue?

I have a nine month old and have gone with pushing in pram for naps and forgotten about the cot :-) she used I love the cot.

We so two naps and I try I keep them at the same time (say nine and 1.30) and put her in pram at first early sign of tiredness and then sing and push until sleeping ;-) so first nap two hours after getting up and second about three hours after wake up - but all babies are different

Screaming to me indicates overtired ness but what do I know I have a sleep is for wimps baby too :-)
