naps - when do I give up?

3 month old ds will only nap in the morning 90 mins after waking. After this he screams til bedtime and nothing gets him to sleep.

I use white noise to get him to sleep in the morning. This works really well.

he hasn't slept since 10am and is very tired. Nothing gets him to sleep til bedtime now.

do I give up on afternoon naps and accept the9-10 hrs of screaming from tiredness til bedtime or do I persist with naps?

I tried putting him in his cot fed dry white noise 15 mins later no screaming but hes just lying there wide awake. So bring him downstairs and hes screaming again.

What do I do?

Are you putting him down at the right time? Watching for sleep cues? Lying down at right time is importanr.

What abou getting him to sleep in different place? Sling/pram etc.

Have you set a routine like you would at bed...i put in sleep bag, make room dark, sing a song so she knows whats coming.

Not an expert at all, just trainngg my 8 wk old dd now but making small progress. I am giving it a week to work as think itll take a while.

Could it be reflux? Or is he screaming only because he is tired?

My ds is 4 months and in the last few weeks has gone from not sleeping during the day to falling into a rough nap pattern more or less on his own.

I found that first nap really important, maybe try putting him down only 60 mins after waking instead? Watch for when he starts to go quiet, rubs eyes, yawns and when he does put him to sleep straight away.

I'm putting him down at the right time sleepy cues fed dry etc. Not reflux as he sleeps through at night and for a morning nap. If I put him down after an hr he's wide awake around 90 mins abd he's ready for a nap then. ...ge refuses to sleep until bedtime which is 10 hrs or so of screaming.

He won't sleep in a pram screams until picked up and will only sleep in a sling if were outside walking. I have a toddler and can't always leave when he needs a nap as she might be napping or eating etc.

Why does he sleep so well at night, well in the morning then refuse point blank in the afternoon.

have you tried the shhhh/pat technique by the baby whisperer? I've been using that for ages and it's really helps. I've now also started doing pick up/put down as my dd2 is now 17 weeks old. You can start using that technique from 4 months old. Daytime naps are so important and I really sympathise. My dd2 used to be a great sleeper in the day until a few weeks ago and now it's all gone pear shaped and driving me a bit crazy! I think she's teething too.... She needs at least 3 hours of daytime naps and if not she's overtired and so miserable. She woke up from her last nap at 4.20pm yesterday and then didn't go to sleep until 7.30pm which is way too long for her. She seriously needs to be in bed within 2 hours of her last wake up. You can get some free tips on naps from the baby sleep site. Good luck, it's so hard. I can't wait for things to get easier and I'm really struggling to meet my dd1 (5.5) and dd2's needs!!
