Co sleeping and breastfeeding logistics / using side car

My DD is 7 weeks and I am co sleeping with her. Didn't plan to, but it works for now.

Some questions for more experienced co sleepers:

  • I can only feed lying down from the boob nearest the bed (lying on my side). This means I need to move to baby to the other side of my body. Because of this DH is sleeping in the spare room because for at least part of the night DD is between us and this doesn't feel safe. Any thoughts on how to keep feeding on one side so I can keep DH with us? I miss him!
  • we have a cosleeper cot made from normal cot. I find it hard to get her into it, either because I fall asleep mid feed or she wakes up when I move her. Any ideas on this or is persistence key? She just sleeps so much better glued to me.
  • In the night she has had a sneaky feed without me waking at first, but from the previous boob (I alternate boobs one per feed). Is this a problem?

Would like to hear generally how you co sleeping arrangements work.

you def want to swap breasts in the night, otherwise you might end up with blocked duct/mastitis (doing this caused my one and only blocked duct!!)

but once you're done feeding you can always swap her back into the cot.. that way DH can stay in with you

if she wakes when you move her is that a problem? what does she do? will she cry if you put her in the cot or will she drop off to sleep again?

Hi Bundaberg,

Yes good point on the switching.

When she wakes up she sometimes goes back to sleep with some rocking, other times is wide awake and I he e to either get up and pace to get her back to sleep or even worse wait til next feed and start again.
