Baby sleeping... too much?

My baby is 14 weeks old. He is a great sleeper (yeah) - managed the first real sleep through night last night (8.30 to 6.45), but has really only woken up once a night since he was seven weeks old. He is now on formula only.

So far, so good.

However, I am wondering whether I should start some (non)sleep training for the day, as he sleeps a lot during the day as well! He sleeps in the car, can barely keep his eyes open in the pram, and than takes a lot of snoozes when we are at home, including some extended ones. On some days, he is not awake for more than six-ish hours on the whole!

When he is wake though, he is happy and chipper and he is developing normally (He was born four weeks early, but on the whole, his development is hardly at all behind - maybe about two weeks when I take the "Wonderweeks" book as a guide). He is also gaining weight rather nicely (now close to the 50th centile).

So... should I do anything?
Should I be worried?

The HVs are not concerned at all, given that everything else is developing normally.

Any advice is appreciated! And sorry in advance to those whose babies don't sleep, day or night :-((!

My DS was exactly the same. He is now 19 weeks old and was 6 weeks early. He started to be more awake from around 16 weeks. Before that he slept the clock round Smile.

Day now goes

6.30 up and bottle
8.00 sleep for 30 mins
10.00 bottle
11.00 sleep 2 hours
13.30 bottle
15.00 sleep 1 hour
17.00 bottle
18.30 sleep
20.00 bottle and bed
3.00 bottle

Just enjoy it. I remember considering taking PFB to the GP as he was sleeping 15 hours a day Grin, he was 18 months when he dropped his morning nap and nearly three when he dropped his afternoon nap. He's 4 now and always sleeps 12 hours solidly.

I was quite smug until I had DD who is nearly 2 and still regularly wakes twice a night.

All my children were like that, slept through the night early (8 weeks for DD, 12 and 16 weeks for DS's), only ever woke up once in the night and had long naps plus always asleep in the car. Two are at uni now so obviously didn't do them any harm. Just enjoy and lie to your friends. Grin

Dear all

Timepasses - that kind of sounds like my baby's schedule.

All - yeah, I guess I just need to enjoy! Sometimes, I am bored though. Baby, entertain me!

Anyway, he does have his odd awake days. Last week, I took him swimming for the first time and thought he would be out for the count all day. But no - he had three half hour snoozes during the day and that was it! The next day though, back to his normal (sleepy) self.

Have a restful night, everybody!

Dodi, before you know it you will be yearning for the kind of days you're experiencing now! My DD was same, she's 23 weeks now and her wakeful periods are much longer, I love them but some days I find myself glancing at the clock and looking for signs of tiredness just so I can get some stuff done (like eat, or shower Hmm).

Those awake days will get more frequent Smile
