Sleeping on front

Sorry if this has been done a million times before but I wandered views on sleeping on baby's front.

My dd is 8 weeks and we've noticed she sleeps longer when placed on her front. She is 12 lbs and ff. I'm so nervous of letting her do this due to what u read about cot death but many if my friends also say their LOs also sleep better on their fronts.

Any views? A big no no?

It's so frustrating isn't it - they do sleep much better, but the statistics on how much cot death rates dropped after the advice changed from putting babies on their fronts to their backs are pretty horrifying. So I'd say keep putting her on her back I'm afraid. Once they can roll over it's fine - DD's never slept on her back since she was 4mths and able to control it!

Minty, yes very frustrating! I think a gut instinct (lol) is needed, ie not on front till they can roll over. Shame.....would have made our lives bit easier but it's too scary to risk it...

I have to say my baby was a tummy sleeper. She literally would not sleep on her back from about 4 weeks onwards (after recovering from an infection and bronchiolitis. She would startle herself awake every 15/20 mins. I was up and down all night. She was number 2 so it's not as if I could rest in the day.
She was hospitalised three times as a baby twice with bronchiolitis and the nurses actually put her on her tummy (frog style) in the oxygen tent as it was easier for them to breath like that apparently.

I didn't like it but I didn't have a choice. It was that or no sleep ever. We adhered to all other guide lines and I bought an angel care monitor.

My 7wo is the same. I've compromised by letting her tummy sleep during the day and I check her obsessively. At nighttime though, she sleeps on her side, no matter how hard I try to put her on her back.

Thanks Fred and Giles.

Yes daytime naps with constant monitoring could work.

Fair compromise. It would most likely at the very least stop her from being over tired from not sleeping in the day. Gives a chance for a catch up and start to build a bed time routine (of sorts) :)
