6mo and jet lag - tips please!

Planning a 4-day trip to the States to visit family with my 6 month old DD. Am terrified of the sleep implications because of the 5 hour time difference.

Normally she sleeps 7.30pm until around 6am ish, with maybe two wake-ups.

We will arrive in the US around 1pm local time, which is getting close to DD's normal bedtime.

Any tips to try to persuade her not to sleep between around 2pm local time and wake up around 1am?! Think that might kill me...

Or should I just keep in her her normal routine for the few days of the trip to minimise disruption (even though I'll prob hardly get any sleep at all!)?

I was always amazed by DDs ability to deal with jet jag better than me when little. They simply lengthened naps into sleeps and shortened sleeps into naps. The dark helped. We had a very strong bedtime routine - upstairs, bath, milk (story as older) then bed and kept to it as much as possible.
And especially once back home.
Good luck.

Sorry not much help from me. My kids have terrible jet lag and always have. They take about 1w to adjust! Just try to push hr bedtime as late as you can? And stock up on coffee!

Have you booked carrycot on plane? That helps! I used to take sock toys (Lamaze?) and dozens of muslin clothes as DD slept with them??
DD should sleep on plane a little and then in car on arrival with luck.
The dark really helps them to back to sleep at night too but make sure its quiet! I will never forget the time we stayed in airport hotel before drive to PILs, finally got DDs to sleep and alarm went off at 4am as previous occupant had set it for early flight. I cried!!
Bright day light in day does the same for DCs as us. And dark for her day time naps - but do wake her after what ever normal length of day time sleeps.
You will need early nights - which is not ideal with family as evenings are good to catch up - but early mornings are unavoidable and do need coffee!
Honestly. I remember feeling utterly terrified first time - but it was ok!

Copied from my site I don't believe I can link here...

Breastfed babies may take a bit longer to adjust to the new time zone as the mother’s body will continue to manufacture milk according to the ‘home’ schedule for a while. Ensure you keep yourself well hydrated to keep up production and to reduce the impact of your own jet lag.
Try to feed your baby as much as possible during the new daytime, but expect to have disturbed nights for a while.
Keep the baby’s room dark and quiet at night so their own circadian rhythms adjust.
Keep to any routines and rituals you have in place and encourage your baby to nap when it’s nap time at your destination. Now is the perfect time to attempt that ‘nap while your baby naps’ system.
Don’t worry that any permanent regression will occur to your sleep training efforts; it will just take a little longer to rediscover the sleep/feed cycle you’re both used to.
Hang in there! It will get easier!

Good luck.

Thanks - only going for 4 days so may have to just deal with some VERY early wake ups!
